“Speed is a key ingredient now, and something we’ve certainly identified. Whether it’s the draft or free agents or building our own team right now...
i just think speed is crucial to team success right now”

Idk if that means they wouldn’t try for a top tier guy like Tavares bc he isn’t fast...?
But with the 2nd tier guys,
It certainly seems like they’d be interested in someone like Grabner, as opposed to Vanek, bc of the speed factor

Also commented on how there’s still a physical aspect of the game today
So maybe a guy or 2 like Smith-Pelly will be brought in?
Maybe we already have a guy like that in Bailey? He fits that mold

I'm not saying an AR-15 is the best weapon either, let's get that out of the way.

There are tons of better and worse guns. I'd say the best self defense weapon I own is my .357 mag because it makes so much noise for a small/quick gun. I'd rather scare someone than shoot them regardless of what they're up to. Fire one through the ceiling of my house and any intruder would at least really consider their next move.

However, the point I was trying to make is that automatic guns aren't being used in most of these attacks, it's semi automatic weapons. Semi automatic guns count in the hundreds of millions in the US alone, so if that's the case, we are really talking about mass confiscations.

If "assault style weapons" or semi automatic weapons are made illegal I would be obligated to turn in my .308 I use for deer hunting and my father's .22 that I hunt rabbits in the garden with.

And no, I live in East Otto, New York. I do not care about over-penetration at all.

- RhinoFan

Do you live alone? And if your neighbors are hundreds of yards away, then fine, but unless you're the only one in the house with bad guys you should be very concerned with over-penetration, once a bullet hits something it's got a mind of its own. A 12 gauge with rock salt will get the point across just as well, or even as has been said before, just wracking the slide is message enough. I just think an AR is quite possibly the worst, man-portable obviously, defense weapon. Too long, too loud, blinding in the dark, over-penetration.

You can pass restrictions on speech if the government can show it is necessary to serve a compelling government interest. A colorable argument could be made that preventing further school shootings is a "compelling government interest." That law would have to be VERY carefully worded, but as much as everyone (left and right) hates the media right now, there might be some support for it.

In theory you can already bring a civil claim for negligence if someone's weapon is stored in a negligent manner so that it is made available for use in a school shooting. I don't know that criminalizing it is gonna get much traction.

And all of the suggestions I had would have to be federal law...that way they get the benefit of the Supremacy Clause (i.e. they will trump any state law that conflicts with them).

- feetontheair22

You think they could pull that off without a constitutional amendment? You're right, it would have to be very carefully worded. Even with the antipathy towards them, I would guess most people don't want to go Richarding with the first amendment. I'd think it would go as well as trying to modify the 2nd amendment.

Yeah, I just meant federal law to make the laws governing purchases uniform to eliminate the "gun highways". That's not mass shooting related, just plain gun related crime related.

Beady will probably like this, but I think we're too individualistic, no one wants to do anything to inconvenience themselves to benefit other people without receiving something equally beneficial in return. If we took half a step back and worked together instead of trying to mark out what's "ours". We could actually get somewhere.

Why are y'all so (frank)in afraid of each other?
- BINGO!

So, here is an example of why...and to date I have not had one thought of retaliation, yet, as I am letting the “law” do there job.

I live in a wonderful area... culturally fabulous, a terrific climate, great natural beaches, which I truly enjoy. Siesta Beech has been recognized for decades as one of the best beaches in the country...Top 3 for last 10 years...my wife and I enjoy going to the beach to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds.
Last week we flew our daughter-in-law and grand daughter down for a long weekend ... my son is in Iraq flying Blackhawks until Sept., and she has been alone in VA bringing up her daughter...she deserved a bit of a break.

We went to Siesta beach, which has a huge parking lot which still underserved th3 masses who go there...on this day parking was at a premium...unfortunately my son and I got into an altercation over a parking spot...a young person tried to highjack from us while waited for the spot to open up...with our indicator on to clearly signal our intent.
Well this idiot decideded to throw himself in front of the car as it. Slowly, very slowly moved forward into the spot (I.e. foot of brake, not app, used to gas pedal ... so like 2 mph)....then proceed to hammer m6 son (driver) 2x in the face ...this dude was huge...6’2” and built like weight lifter in competition....twice in the face throw the car window while he was strapped in by a seatbelt...I got out to confront him...I’m 60 ... this a-hole then pops me in the chin as I’m trying to stop hi. From throwing more punches ... ends up he connects to my chin (I don’t remember getting hit, but my chin and jaw were immediately very, very sore.
They left the scene when I had my son call police, mind you we never threw a punch...I’m not about to get my ass kicked by someone on raids and 35 years younger, lol.
All over a parking spot. (frank)ing crazy.
Imagine some a-hat all jacked up coming into your home as you are relaxed for the evening.

That is why I am aware poop happens

Or u could just found another parking spot & not confronted someone who was clearly a jerkoff

What possible good is gonna come from escalating the situation?

Did u think he was gonna apologize & move his car?

And that’s a long, long, long ways away from someone breaking into your living room sir

Live with the ball and chain, 75 fish and two cats. They all understand we have a strict no clipping friendlies policy.

Seriously though yeah, I retook the course with her and she has her permit now (finally). We're last house on a dead end road in Otto, so not many people. Even less neighbors. Closest is a half mile up the side of the hill, so that's the reason for less worry on that front anyways.

You definitely wouldn't need a constitutional amendment. In the Free speech realm, for example, you can't yell "fire" in a crowded movie theater. Freedom of the Press is similarly limited. The press can in *extreme* situations be banned from reporting on criminal proceedings. That example is rare, but the use of this type of "prior restraint" has also been used in relation to reporting on national security and law enforcement.

All that being said...banning the dumbass media from glorifying the shooter isn't the hill I'd die on. The rest of the suggestions I proposed would be sufficient to curb the issue. To that end, there is no way to complete eliminate mass shootings without stoking a cultural shift that would shake the country to its very bedrock and would likely lead to a 2nd civil war.

I would love Burakovsky in Buffalo. I’d even take Orpik to make it work and lower the asking price. Young, LW, speed. He is perfect for us.

Apparently I dindnt describe it appropriately.

We were the first, with indicator on, waiting for the car to evacuate the spot, after asking him, I don’t know...5 minutes early and slowly following him there .. the guy was like Molson getting out of there.
In the meantime, a girl comes up to stand there, while we had our indicator on...10 feet away...then her boyfriend comes up as Mr Macho telling us to beat it our he’s going to beat the piss out of us...which he did cause we don’t start poop.

Anyway, yup...minding our own business at the beach is way, way far from some ass-hat coming into your house...until it happens

GMTM hates Russians!

EDIT: ....seriously tho..I'd love to have him, but I don't think he has any desire to be in Buffalo after winning a cup.

He was very high on Olofsson. I'm paraphrasing, but he said he expects good goalscoring success at the next level. He's versatile as to LW/RW

I'm really high on Oloffson (We're going to have quite a few talented Swedes), lead the SHL in goals and even played on the same team as Dahlin (who said he had one of the best shots he's seen or something along those lines). Pure sniper for Jack that may already have some minor chemistry with our future star D-Man? Sounds like what we've been looking for.

He has the best shot in the entire organization, including Eichel. It’s just away from the puck that might keep him out of the lineup until he can adjust. Definitely a wild card in the winger carousel we will be having in September.
