Okposo and a later years mid (3rd/4th) for Perry.
Do you do it, do they do it? - ImThatGuy
That seems like a wash...
Okposo has 2 years of health concerns and a big contract.
Perry has had 2 down years since what would have been 6 straight 30-50 goal seasons and is 33 years old on an even bigger contract but 1 less year.
I don't think the Ducks really benefit from that besides "get rid of a contract" but why do it to bring in a guy who could just sit on your IR? Perry has played there for years and knows the system like his d1ck. I can't see it. |

They have about 20 now. add 13.5 + about 3 for the cap increase. thats 36.5.
Subtract 28 and bam you've still got cap space. - ImThatGuy
With 15/23 contracts filled, and no deal for Reinhart, and no long term flexibility with Ryan and perry as it relates to raises for other players |

for
Karlsson (w/ extension), Stone, and probably take MacArthur (LTIR).
Do you do it? Add/subtract? |

I would be cool with Karlsson but wouldn’t that make Dahlin Available for a Connor McDavid type of trade I don’t know how we’re going to pay two defenseman over $10 million |

If there wasn’t a salary cap I’d be all for it
I just don’t see a way you can afford Karlsson’s $12 million and Jack’s $10 million plus Dahlin’s extension and Casey’s extension.

Perry is making 8.6 for three more years with a full NMC - assuming you could convince him to waive it, the Sabres should not add more to that deal on top of Okposo. I like the shorter term, but I'm honestly not sure that Perry is the better player at this point.
Your other deal i like better. I had a similar deal: Hoffman and Stone for Reinhart, Nylander, Pick 32 and next year's first.
Most thought it was too much to give up, but basically it's Stone for a first and Nylander (which is an absolute steal), and Hoffman for Reinhart and 32 (which swaps a RW for a LW which we desperately need.
The deal actually went over decently in the sens blog. They need a first next year badly.
Inb4 "next year's first is untouchable." It shouldn't be for Stone |

I mean Dahlin and Casey are at least 2-3 years away. It'd be a "window" type deal.
I didn't realize that karlsson wanted 12M either though... Yikes.
Maybe not. |

He wouldn't be part of the deal, but you could still do the ROR/Jaden Schwartz deal
Hoffman-Eichel-Stone
Schwartz-Mitts-Okposo
Wilson-Erod-Baptiste
Girgs-Oregan-Pommer |

Hmm... Yea. Before the Schwartz/ROR deal
I put it all together on Capfriendly because I was curious of salary but what I did was.
Hoffman-Jack-Perry
ROR-Casey-Stone (5.65x4 extension)
Baptiste-Asplund-Pommer
Girgs-Rodrigues-Bailey
Dahlin-Risto
Scans-Guhle
McCabe-Bogo
Pilut
Khudobin
Ullmark
And we actually have 500K leftover in cap space. |

Not gonna lie... but that whole trade scenario playing out looks pretty solid in my book.
I threw in a 3rd rounder to STL to get Barbashev back out with Schwartz.
Schwartz - Jack - Stone
Hoffman - Casey - Okposo
Asplund - Barbashev - Pommer
Zemgus - Evan - Bailey
Fasching
Dahlin - Risto
Scans - Guhle
Beaulieu - McCabe
Pilut/Bogo
Sign one of Ward/Bernier/Khudobin to offset with Ullmark.
Have about 5M in cap space. |

Why do ppl keep asking about Perry?
Clearly on the decline,
and his contract is absolutely horrible
No freaking way do i want him...
even for free |

I'm in this same boat... I'd be interested if he was bought out and it was a small window contract but paid him as the 17-23 goal player he is now.
Same with people trying to trade Toews out of Chicago. That contract is nuts at 10.5M for 5 more years for the 50 pt player he is now. |

Okposo and a mid pick for Perry.
Get Hoffman, Stone and Gaborik(Cap Dump) from Ottawa. What does it cost? ROR+?
I fixed the wing problem. - ImThatGuy
Not really
Perry is a shell of himself on one of the worst contracts in the league
Hoffman is good, but under contract for 2 more years & then we have to sign him to a long term deal that essentially starts when he’s 31- so no way
We can’t sign him into his late30s like he will demand
He just doesn’t fit the timeline
Stone- hell yes
Very underrated player
Ottawa won’t want O’Reilly though
Cheap owner
And they’re about to trade Karlsson,
so they’re gonna be rebuilding
That means they’d want young players & high picks from us

I get that ppl are worried about Okposo,
but 2 things:
1) if the worst happens, and his concussion issues end his career- then we will get Cap relief from putting him on LTIR
2) if he just stays healthy for this season, his numbers will very likely bounce back to the 20goal, 50points mark-
which will make him tradable without having to take back a Perry type contract
Head injuries aren’t like a back back that he can play through but will just be sh!tty
Okposo was fine in the 2nd half for the most part
I expect him to rebound nicely this year |

I actually really like Okposo.
He did have a good run in October, December, and January. In 38 games he had about 29 pts. |

I certainly wouldn't do a 1 for 1 here. |

No friggin way should the Sabres do that! LOL.
Okposo, age 30 after suffering a life-threatening illness the season before, and therefore who was unable to properly condition his body produces 15/29/44 in 76 games played in 2017-18 season and has a Cap Hit and Salary of $6M.
Perry age 33, produces 17/32/49 in 71 games played and has a cap hit of $8.625M, with a salary of $9M.
The real question should be who in their right mind would pay cash out of $3M (50%) and Cap Hit of $2.6M (43%) more for 5 (11%) more points?

The problem with this trade is Hanifin is a LHD to which we are loaded with.
it would open up other like Scandella or McCabe or both to be moved for another solid RFD or LW though.
It could also work if they have plans to play Dahlin on the right.
The next 10 days should be interesting !!!
