I know they never happen and I would expect them to match it but I think jbotts needs to consider offer sheets to bring in more talent.
Plus I want it to happen to make it difficult on Toronto long term |

Tyler Myers- trade or hold on?
Myer has one of those last great deals of a 5.5 cap hit but with a 3 million cash salary. He’s an ideal candidate for a team looking to add cap space in a budget friendly way who can also play a bit of hockey. The circumstances for a trade of Myers may never be greater and with Tucker Poolman having a solid season playing third pair minutes would the Jets be any worse off?
Given the cost of Myers and that Kulikov’s deal is likely unmovable, Poolman should be thought of as a likely heir to Myers who should be traded in the offseason, again though could Chevy make that deal given Myers’ history with the organization?
From the Jets blog
Two former Sabres clearly excelling once they leave the losing atmosphere of Buffalo |

Detroit is still in a cap mess
Need to resign RFAs Mantha, Larkin, Athanasiou, and have 14 guys under contract with 17m in cap space.
Their RFAs are prime to get offersheeted - DDM-Coga
but Nylander and the Leafs attract more attention and hits |

Everyone wants to burn Toronto. And you wouldn't have to worry about making enemies because it's not like you ever trade with TO.
But the GM club is an old boys club and probably always will be until there are more rule changes or stipulations to offer sheet. I've been pining on reporters and bloggers to finally ask a GM why there aren't offer sheets. I want to hear it come out of their own mouths. |

I was listening to wgr this morning and they were talking about offer sheeting Nylander, I like that idea because if they match with marner/Matthews extensions that could put them in cap hell with blue line issues - arousedpanda
They will then offer sheet, Mittelstadt or Dahlin in a few seasons. Let someone else piss off the Leafs. |

According to Bob, after about 10, all the players are the same for like the next 20
so if you pick 30th, you're basically picking 11th?

First impression: Kupari is a heck of a steal at 20. This draft is going to be fun. Time to reeeeed. |

Yes it can be a dangerous game but not if you sign them with a year left on their contract |

He's going to need to be drafted by a team that has a Dunkin Donuts.
So he can crash in to it when he's drunk, as an American ROR would. - seedy
No no no, American ROR likes the weed, Canadian ROR likes the booze |

We owe Edmonton "a burn" from the Vanek offer sheet. |

Depends on how you see it, you have some control on the assets you give, as long as you don’t lose control like gmtm did
We need to add more talent to the roster and you have a better grasp on the player then a draft pick normally |

Yes you are playing with fire but I would stick to your own division because you rarely trade with those teams and with the playoff format you can take one of their talented players or push them into a tight cap
We’ve seen very few offersheets but what backlash has there really been to teams like Edmonton and philly, I don’t see them having hard times making trades or being blackballed and Edmonton screwed us with that Vanek offer sheet

Kevin Lowe did it twice, and he's not a GM anymore. Brian Burke and Darcy Regier were infuriated. It may not hurt the team, but it can kill careers |

Here’s an O’Reilly trade I’d be good with:
To Buffalo
#7 overall- pick Wahlstrom (LW)
Goldobin- middle6, young NHL LW
Gaudette- bottom6, young 2way center
To Vancouver
O’Reilly
*possibly add a prospect like Cj Smith if necessary
Gaudette should become at least a good defensive 4C, to play defensive situations & allow Jack & Casey to focus on scoring
Wahlstrom is a sniper type LW prospect in the draft, so there’s 1 spot filled
Probably needs a year in college or AHL though before he joins the Sabres
Goldobin is a LW that should at least be able to be a decent 3rd liner, maybe be a decent 2nd liner that can score something like 20-30-50pts if developed & ends up in an offensive role
He’s a Russian who’s played in N.America for 5yrs, so I’m not worried about him wanting to leave for the KHL
And he could be a guy who helps us recruit a good player or 2 from over there
19-20
WAHLSTROM-Eichel-Okposo(if not traded)
GOLDOBIN-Mittelstadt-Reinhart
NYLANDER-Rodrigues-OLOFSSON
Wilson-GAUDETTE-Baptiste
Bailey
*other guys who may be “ready” should any of the above struggle:
O’Regan-Asplund-Pu
______-Malone-Fasching

True but I would say Lowe is not a gm due to his inept ability to make a team with 3 first overall picks opposed to the offer sheets.
I know it won’t happen but we need to explore all avenues to get better, I think if a team used a few offer sheets and made a contender then it can become a regular thing, so why not us? |

Apparently the Canucks don’t want to give up the seventh overall pick they think they can get Ryan O’Reilly for free so i would forget about them |

Looks like Dan Bylsma may be heading to Detroit. Anyone he actually liked in Buffalo he may be interested in? As someone else mentioned, they are in cap trouble. Maybe a trade involving either a signed Lehner or his rights for Jimmy Howard? Both sides could add pieces, with them adding more because of Howard's contract being high, but it is for only one more year. Maybe something like Lehner and McCabe for Howard and Bertuzzi? Their top 4 D are older and they have 5 RFAs to sign.
Howard would not be that bad for one season playing 30-40 games. |
