I think Casey at 2 is the best for his development |

Sign one of Grabovski, Stajan, Bozak, Letestu, Nash and you are good on a 2-3 year deal. - ImThatGuy
Was thinking Derek Ryan would be a great target.
Bozak would be decent but I have no idea what his contract demands would be. Ryan is a quality possession player, F/O winner and 5v5 scorer. He almost hit 40 points last season and could be had for probably in the 3M range. Nice, short contract, with positive impact in the bottom 6. |

Hanifin had 32 points and was a -20, it's not as if he's Hedman.
Every team gets an all-star (see: girgensons, zemgus). He's obviously better than ZG, i know. - jcragcrumple
So beacuse he's a -20 he's bad ? And you just used hedman as example ?
Young defenseman don't start hitting their stride until the 3rd or 4th year |

I'm sure he's good. Truthfully, i watch him maybe 3 times a year. I have no strong opinions on him one way or another.
If they wanted Scandella or McCabe + for him (which i'm sure they don't), i think that's a better fit.
ROR for a LHD doesn't make any sense to me with how the D core is shaking out. The move for ROR is a LW or a RHD D imo. I think the LW path is best, personally |

Duncan Keith was a -29 last year.
OEL was a -28
Jack Eichel a -25
Patrick Kane a -20
+/- is a stat extremely dependent on full team not just an individual. |

I know faceoffs don't matter, but who's going to win them when we get rid of ROR?
Our 1C isn't exactly adept at winning draws in the NHL. I don't remember Erod being a standout on the dot either. I do remember Erod making some boneheaded defensive plays though.
We need a defensive center if we get rid of ROR.. one that can take draws... ROR can win a few, or so I'm told, and is a real good defensive forward.
It just might matter one day. |

Was being sarcastic. It's a bum stat. Also depends on deployment and the success (or failures) of the team.
In all serious though, Hanifin struggles with consistency, but has a huge ceiling. Would love him here, but he needs work.

I'm responding to the All-star comment. There's clearly a range when it comes to all-stars.
Connor McDavid was an all-star this year.
Mike Green and Brian Boyle were too.

As soon as we get a new shiny toy...everyone else is awful and they need to be traded.
As far as Risto..I swear half the people on here don't even watch the games. Stats can only tell you so much. You have to watch how he plays..watch how he is always on the ice in the pooptiest of situations trying to cover for the 4 half-wits that accompany him.
And now that we FINALLY get him another quality defenseman to play with....everybody wants to trade him |

He started 63% of his time in the Offensive zone.
Risto started there 54%
CF% 56 for Hanifin
50% for Risto
Points wise, Hanifin has 18 goals in 240 games, and he doubled his goal output while his shooting percentage also doubled from 2 years of 3.5 to 6.5.
It seems like everyone not on the sabres is capital-E Elite to you |

While this is true, he's also on the ice in the best situations, example, most of his minutes are played with Eichel, O'Reilly, Reinhart and Kane.
Again, this is the disconnect.
Not all of O'Reilly, Ristolainen, Eichel, Reinhart can be really good. It just doesn't make sense.
We know Eichel is great, the eye test and numbers back that up. The other 3 is a different story |
