The guy has 2 choices at this point.
1. Break it off with the rotten kunt and come clean
2. Live the rest of your days playing in the KHL in Siberia.

Yeah.

We all know it only takes one GM, but man. People might call me simple-minded, but I'm not sure how you take on a guy whose fiancee trolled another WAG over a deceased newborn

HTF do you even try to sell that to your owner, or the reporters who ask, or the fanbase -- "Yeah, I'm thinking about bringing in a 30-goal guy whose wife-to-be might be the worst human alive, but I don't think that's gonna affect the on-ice prod...what? Um. OK. Yeah, that guy's team finished 30th overall last year and he and the team captain had a confrontation in the parking lot toward the end of the season, but I'm sure we can clean that...I'm sorry? Did you just say "turn in my keys?'"

Hoffman has virtually no value now. Good luck getting anything for him. I don't care how good he plays.

I assume that’s the only reason he’s missing the draft...if he wasn’t in court they were still going to allow him to be around 18 year old kids after being accused of harrssing a 19 year old?

Come on sens, it’s not that hard to avoid shooting your self in the foot

I wouldn't offer, but what do you think an offer might look like if they can't get Hoffman's fiancee cleared any more than it is right now?

A third and a C-level prospect?

I mean, there's no way they could possibly bring him back. I am always wrong about these things, but I don't see any way he brings back a first or second

Glad to see at least one person is actually using their brain when reading this. An accusation is not a conviction, and until these accusations are confirmed with some kind of evidence it's really just speculation. Now if it's all true, then by all means say what you will about the people involved. But it's funny how "innocent until proven guilty" tends to go right out the window these days in favour of lynch mob justice.
- khawk

Well no wives/girlfriends/fiances have come out to defend Hoffmans fiance so far. Other than Hoffman himself, nobody has come out and said anything nice and that she couldn't have done this. This could come out in the next few days but it seems odd that nobody has while the support for Karlssons wife has already started being posted out on social media.

My two cents:
First off, the whole comments after EK and wife list their baby. I don't care if EKs wife dropped a huge turd on Hoffman's lawn... That's just wrong.

Secondly, if the sheer NUMBER of messages etc are right, (1000+) then we're looking into a level of obsession/dementia that speaks to mental illness. Not an excuse, just an observation.

No matter what, Ottawa is screwed. They pretty much have to trade Hoffman before he's drawn and quartered by the fans and/or his own teammates, and now if they don't re-sign EK, it's all for naught. It's a no win situation.

Sorry - being factually accurate is not the same thing as being naive. The police aren't involved because of "smoke", they're involved because one of the parties asked the police to get involved. When the police declare that they have the actual evidence required to do anything meaningful about the situation, then come talk to me.

Sens fans aren't gonna want to hear this, and obviously, this is just my opinion:

I think you tear this thing down almost to the studs. There are some decent pieces that obviously you keep, and you can't move everybody, but you just gotta address the elephant in the room and be proactive:

How can you think Erik Karlsson is gonna re-sign, now that this is out?

In the offseason, with an increased cap, his value is significant -- work with him on a team where he might want to extend, and get four pieces: a first, a second, a roster player and an A/B prospect, depending on the quality of the roster player, and move on.

You move Hoffman for whatever you can freaking get. Anything. You do not even pretend like that is salvageable.

Mark Stone is your new captain.

You see if Matt Duchene will extend. If he won't, you tell your fanbase that you are doing a hard reset and you move him, too.

You draft Zadina or Tkachuk, whoever is there. If Zadina is truly NHL-ready, like some say, then you tell your fans that yes, the team is going to look different and yes, it was sudden, but you now have picks and prospects and are going to turn this thing around as fast as humanly possible.

That's what I would do. Don't mess with Duchene if he isn't all-in. Turn the page, clear the air in the locker room and with the fans, and embrace the future.

Chabot's a nice piece. Stone is legit 1RW. Colin White and Chylapik have already gotten NHL games and are good, young pieces.

Again: Just my opinion. But the only thing that makes this worse is if you try to put a band-aid on a gunshot wound.

Just head straight for triage. Fans can accept a fresh start if you tell them that's what it is and you get decent pieces for Karlsson, which you will.

Personally, I'm very glad that the law doesn't work on the basis of who does and doesn't tweet on your behalf. Hoffman's fiance is clearly not the nicest person in the world and obviously has some negative history with some of the players' wives... but as someone else pointed out, sending 1,000 negative messages including a comment about a stillborn child is the work of a borderline sociopath. Is it really too much to ask that this be confirmed with some kind of objective evidence before throwing everyone involved under the bus and potentially blacklisting an NHL player's entire career?

"Feels threatened" is not evidence of wrong-doing, and the legitimately published stories I've seen have repeatedly said that the allegations have yet to be proven. Don't get me wrong, it's a damn strange situation, and it could well be that the people involved are guilty as hell. But it's flat-out wrong to pass judgement to the extent that many people are here before the actual facts are in.

That said, Dorion certainly won't need anything close to the evidence required for a legally binding peace bond to know that Karlsson and Hoffman can't both come back to training camp in the fall.

This is ultimately good because it lowers Hoffmans value immensely, nobody is going to want to bring this into their locker room

A couple of things - & 1 being the Devils advocate.

Over here in Australia, when you request any type of restraining order against someone, the police can request 1 on your behalf if they have enough evidence to think there's a problem, or you yourself can request 1 which the court will actually decide first of all if it can proceed to a hearing for the order to be argued by both parties. So unless the police are doing it, it does take some convincing in getting past the first step.

In saying that, if the person requesting the order is well known/liked/connected it would be easier to get it to court. If a woman (just an example), starts the waterworks & has some type of 'story' that 'may' be believable it would probably see a court. When it gets to court then all bets are off & unless you have hard evidence then the magistrate will probably just deny the application.

With the other women commenting then it may just be a circle of female doges picking on the ugly duckling, or there's real conflict there & there's a crazy (frank)er loose creating havoc.

If I were a team mate of Hoffman & this was true & I knew for sure (151% sure), then I'd be saying something. If it wasn't true then Karlsson needs to have a chat. I'm not sure how the Karlssons can say that a phoney account was set up by someone without investigators getting involved. If that is the case then I think we would have heard about it as well.

All in all, as I said earlier, appears that the GM knew something was up so he should have tried a lot harder to trade Hoffman. Cop the loss & get it sorted rather than end up with a turd on his doorstep. What does not trading Hoffman say to Karlsson if this is true?

Anybody looking for a 25-goal scorer. It's a classic buy-low scenario.

A redemption story in the making

- jcragcrumple

Why would you want this crap anywhere near your team, Sabres should have no part of this, Kane was a model citizen compared to this nonsense.

The Sens are dealing with two distinct problems here. First, is the legal culpability of the future Mrs. Hoffman. You speak to that. And I will grant you that the evidence that is currently available in the media isn't enough to convict in a court of law.

The second is the appearance of impropriety - independent of what may or may not be factually accurate, and how much of it is accurate. Absolute poison in the locker room. Whether Hoffman's GF/fiance is guilty, and to what degree with respect to the optics of this is immaterial. Hoffman's GF was obviously considered a suspect of this behavior - whether it was actually illegal or not, from the very beginning. To the appearance I've been able to absorb, Hoffman only started to attempt to distance himself when authorities became involved - not a good look.

The Senators management bear some culpability here, as their primary responsibility is to manage assets, and the value of the Mike Hoffman asset drop precipitously from a situation they had to be aware of. No GM worth his salt - who has any designs on his team winning, would bring this guy in at this point as long as he'd bring current GF with him. That kills/will kill locker room unity. Other players, and their WAGs know who he is, and who she is, in terms of personality and disposition.

There is far more to this than just the legal aspect....

If it was just EK's wife making these claims the I would agree with you......but there have been 6 or 7 wives/girlfriends of current and former players who have said that Hoffman's gurl is a (frank)ing nut job who had an unhealthy obsession with Melinda karlsson.

This is past a simple he said/she said situation. There is virtually no doubt anymore that this happened, and Hoffman's gf was behind it.
