So Grubauer and pick 62 for Aslpund and 32?
I'll pass on that, I think Asplund is going to be very very good in a 3rd line center role.
Pick 32 should be a good player too.
I like Grubauer, alot too - Stripes77
I think it was FLA's 2nd coming back so probably in the 40s then?
I am a big Asplund fan too... I would consider it. Depending on what other options are out there but Grubauer is a good option. |

That playoff series he had was remarkable he was Unstoppable and I'm pretty sure the blues organization thought that was going to be his calling going forward
But agreed I would do the trade - gerbe75pts
There is no way that the Blues made that trade. Reports were that we were trying to give Lehner away the deadline. There is no way he gets anything worthwhile in return.

I think the difference with Grubauer is that he becomes your #1 and he's an arb eligible RFA, so you're going to have to pay him and give him some term.
I have no idea what they really think of Ullmark as a #1. If they really like him, then Grubauer seems like a big price to pay.

Does anyone here really like Thomas Hertl??
I really like him and think that he could be an above average LW on Eichel's wing. He has the size and speed to it. 6'2 220 lbs.
SJS just signed Kane to the big extension as their 1LW. Hertl is making 3M as an RFA and they have him at 2LW. They have Timo Meier below him who has similar production. Maybe they don't want to give Hertl a medium bridge deal.
What about throwing McCabe and a pick or Bailey/Baptiste for Hertl?
I think Hertl could sign an average 4 year 4-4.5M deal and easily pot 25-32 goals and 60-65 points. Hertl can even play C in a pinch if needed too. |

He's been meh at best. He's pretty far down the depth chart |

I like Hertl a lot Imagine if he never got injured we could be talking about a top 15 player in the nhl
I was thinking he was getting moved to us for kane or Meier
Anyways I wouldn’t mind seeing him here |

Their cap is SOO weird.
They have 7M in cap space but Hertl, Teirney, and DeMelo need new deals. And next year Meier needs a new deal.
But next year.. they only have 3 forwards signed (Kane, Boedker, Karlsson). everyone else is a UFA/RFA including Pavelski, Couture, Braun and Dillon. They have 6 RFAs to sign next year including Joakim Ryan who played 1D w/ Burns.
Braun is 31 making 3.8M already. Dillon is 27 making 3.2M so what do those next deals look like with Vlasic and Burns locked up? McCabe at 1.9M then RFA w/ 3 years of service already seems appealing if I was SJS.

I THOUGHT SO TOO. I thought we were getting Meier or Hertl. Would have been an awesome deal. It probably would have been 1 for 1 then honestly.
I traded McCabe, Baptiste, and 32 OA for Hertl and Balcers. Signed Hertl to a 4x4.25. Then signed Maroon to a 3x3.25M (44 goals in last 2 years)
Hertl-Jack-Sam
Maroon-ROR-Okposo
Asplund-Casey-Pommer
Doesn't seem so bad. Seems like a pretty good bet plus getting Balcers who could easily be our 2LW in a year or two if Maroon slows down. Still have Nylander to compete on LW too. I like it. |

They might be able to make a deal. I just think it's going to sting a little more. Most deals we propose include the same crew of expendables. This would take a little more, and would probably give SJ their first rounder back.

So, not sure how much of this is newsworthy or if anyone else has heard similar. But I talked to the only 2nd hand source I have.
-Botterill tried very hard to trade ROR at the deadline, and will continue to do so. He also tried to trade Ristolainen.
-A lot of the locker room dissension starts with ROR, almost like he was trying to form a mutiny vs Eichel.
-Eichel and ROR definitely don't get along. It's a very strained relationship.
-Pominville is also a problem, which really surprised me. Not that he's negative per say, it's just that his leadership is non existent and he doesn't put forth the effort nearly enough to be a leadership example
-Beaulieu currently has a huge drug problem
This locker room is poisoned, and the purge started with Kane. And will continue.
This is where the Sabres need to be:

Oh, FFS, because the Bills actually accomplished something last year? You're telling me a huge melting pot that is an NFL locker room is closer than the most homogenous group of guys that is an NHL locker room? Win and everything goes away.
I guarantee you if the Bills go 6-10 we will hear rumblings about grumblings about so-and-so not getting along with (frank)face.
Edit: The Patriots are known as the worst team to play for, yet everyone flocks there because they have to best chance to win. |

I'm sorry but every time I read this crap... It just sounds so juvenile and childish. It just sounds like the junk that some guy on HockeyBuzz made up to try to armchair GM somebody off a team. I mean... these are professional athletes. C'mon. Gimme a break with these 13 year old d1ck measuring contests and drug problems crap. This isn't the 80s.

I would prefer Drouin to Patches, but let me make the Buffalo case for
Patches, Petry, 3OA for Risto and ROR
Average age: Petry, Patches, Zadina: 25.6
Average age ROR, Risto: 25
This deal would give Buffalo 2 picks in the top-3, while sacrificing no future assets, meaning we'd have 4 firsts in 2 years (18-19). The Sabres would instantly solve their LW problem. Patches could play out the final year of the deal, if he's a fit, re-sign mid-year, if not, deal him at the deadline for more assets.
It skews older initially, but the medium-term returns would be younger.
I'm kinda talking myself into this one, not sure if I'm even sold |

We might have to add a little, but i like all of this.
According to Ek montreal has interest in both risto and RoR which means that sadly montreal will not be trading with us.

ROR is a me first guy?..? WTF are you talking about...? Or that there is years of evidence of his apparent character flaws...? The guy seems like the epitome of a team first guy and takes personal responsibility for each loss which he repeats ad nauseum in every interview.
The clear divide seems to stem from a salad bar incident at the Golden Corral on a road trip in Minnesota. Lines in the sand were drawn. Apparently assistant coach Tom Payne had to intervene in an olives vs. walnuts debate which had the Minnesota Nice restaurant staff beside themselves...
Finally the team united around it's opposition to Victor Antipin's position that "in Mother Russia only Beet goes in egg salad...beet and egg and russia." - notalent
B+
Lost it at the end. Antipin isn't Russian, he's a Kazakh. |
