But isn’t the goal to build a championship team?
Lets say you don’t trade those players ...The values that they had could decrease
Like Ristolainen (if GMs see that he can’t be the one to handle the load they might think differently of him )
And ROR (his attitude and play could go down in the gutter when Jack Eichel’s named captain and decreasing his value )
And you can’t keep the locker room how it is now it will just be a toxic environment for everybody and we won’t see any success - gerbe75pts

How do you expect to change the roster and make it better if you keep everyone
? - gerbe75pts
Because players that young develop, grow and improve, they are not in their primes or have hit their ceilings. Also reducing what’s expected of some of them, mainly Risto, could maximize them instead of overworking them. The best thing for this team is to continue to develop, draft well, and add complimentary pieces via FA. These quick fixes and rushing to trade 3-4 guys for one leaves you a team like the one we’ve seen the past few years. We have the high end elite talent we need. Now it’s time to develop them and add complimentary pieces.
Last year when Mittelstadt came in and got a standing ovation I could see jack being jealous because those were his cheers. Having these players looking over their shoulders because there are other talented players that can replace them, in theory, causes people to work harder. As a season ticket holder I saw a lot of lazy efforts especially after an early weak goal given up by Lehner. Internal competition is the best thing for this team not just trying to add more elite talent. Look at the bills they traded their best players and created internal competition and we made the playoffs with some luck. That is how you change the culture by holding players accountable and making them feel if they don’t give their best effort they will lose their jobs. End rant
P.s. this isn’t an attack at you gerbe I enjoy reading your posts and others here it’s just my opinion on how to fix the issues with this teAm

Yes but that takes time, the only player I would trade now is ror because of the locker room issues that seem to be reoccurring from his Colorado days. Jack>O’Reilly and if push comes to shove your building your team around jack and not ror. This team will not be fixed overnight and as these young players develop, improvements will be had on that alone. Plus adding Dahlin mittlestadt and Ullmark should equate to more wins, iirc we lost a lot of one goal games and I include those we lost by two with an empty netter at the end |

This is nothing against you but I’ve seen this post (2015 -now ) we have be doing this every year then people say we’re close to playoffs when this group matures .
Once you bring some capable wingers that can handle a pass and score a easy goal then maybe I’ll be in the group Someday |

He’s going to be 30 and with a lockout coming out that’s a great idea and you have to give him a new contract for 7.5-8 m
No thanks we need a young younger |

Bandits are you thinking about someone else he scored 20 when he was 22 ?
The reason why he became the player he is today he got rid of his cocky attitude that he was the best player in the world and look what it did for him
When he got traded he finally woke up and became the player he was supposed to be - gerbe75pts

That’s fine but they are not mature yet, most players don’t come into the nhl until their early 20’s and our core is 18-22. Also we have a more competent gm, IMO, with a track record of development and being a proven winner with Pitt. Plus we are still recovering from mistakes of past gms, this will take time and the more it gets rushed increases our chances of just spinning wheels. Jack is 21, we have time to do it right.
Question: do you think we’re a better team with Myers zadorov, and compher plus someone like Konecny or whoever you get with that first rounder instead of Lehner ror Kane and bogosian? |

I don’t see how he fits sure he’s going to score and will be excited but by year 3 he will be 33 and we will be heading into the playoffs with a guy that’s making 7.5-8 m for maybe the next 3 after
It’s not a smart signing
We should be going young skinner, Jaden Schwartz those types ..
I would understand if he was the last player we need for a cup run but that’s not us

I agree with your premise, but Skinner for ROR is a bad deal. A one dimensional winger for a center who can play in any situation, and they're one year apart in age |

Yes. Montreal would have to add an additional piece. I'm not expecting their 1st this year, or even Drouin, but they'd have to add something. Age, contract length, etc...
I'd take a 2nd rounder, Fucale, or something else. |
