Only reason to buy him out is if there's legit NHL interest in him. Send him off, give him a chance to play in the NHL before he retires or goes to a lesser league. It's a good will gesture that the player, and others observing, would appreciate a lot. >700k would be on the cap next year, which is negligible at this point. - TheSabresTaco
Except that the Sabres already did him a favor loaning him to California to be close to his family.
They also paid him 30MM dollars for Moulson not to perform.
They owe him absolutely nothing. In fact it mught be the other way around.
If Moulson doesn't want to play in the AHL, he can retire.
Sports are a business, everybody knows that. |

Its pretty clear MM is done in the NHL, but Id also say Jack Johnson is as well, but hes gonna get a stupid contract based on his name in FA this year, some GM will give him 5 mill per because he was a high pick or something.
GMs are dumb when it comes to signing players, some one may say, "he scored 30 few years ago, maybe we can get him going"
JBotts may be aware of this and would allow MM to sign there and doesn't affect our cap at all going forward.
If the cap hit was substantial then Id disagree on the favour side of things, the 670k cap hit isn't even a blip on the radar imo so really why not. - Sabres1523
If Jack Johnson is playing anything more then 5-6 or 2nd PP, shoot the GM that hired him |

The Reign are expecting him back this year. Moulson is expecting to be back there this year.
He’s happy to be there. - Stripes77
If that’s the case, then that’s fine too
If he’d like to be bought out so he can get a tryout with another team...
1) barely costs us
2) looks good

He's scheduled to make $2m this year. I still think he's gonna retire. If he doesn't, he can ride the bus. Everyone earns their paycheck.
Why shouldn't he? - jcragcrumple
Again, wrong way to look at it |

Didn’t answer my question
Would it look good or not?
Additionally...
would the .67mil Cap hit for next year,
PREVENT US from making potential moves in your opinion? - jdfitz77
They’ve done more than enough to look good. |

To whom?
You think players care if Matt Moulson is bought out or not?
You think players are going to call Matt moulson who hasnet been in buffalo for over a year?
Poor little Matt Moulson, got paid 30MM and didn't perform.
Why do the Sabres owe anyone anything?
Look around the league how many bad players are on contract being stashed on LTIR and not even being give the opportunity to play in the minors.
I guess we owed Ville Leino a favor to, right? |

Question....
The whole "loaning Moulson to LA"...
Do we still pay 100% contract when he is loaned to another team? 50/50 maybe? I'm assuming it's still 100% |

I guess the Sabres owed it to Ville Leino and Cody hodgson too.
You know guys they signed to perform and didn't.
If anything Moulson should feel lucky that the SAbres didint buy him out previous and are still paying him a full 5MM salary to play in the AHL. |

A sportsnet trade proposal
To St. Louis - Ryan O'Reilly
To Buffalo - 2018 1st (Winnipeg's), Robert Thomas, Vince Dunn
I propose to add Lehner and Allen in there. |

Do i think other players “care”?
Not really
Do i think other players would think it’s a good gesture by us?
Yes
Does that matter in the grand scheme of things?
Yeah, i think it does
It’s not HUGE
But little things like that add up to make us as an organization look good
How does that .67mil Cap hit hurt us?
It doesn’t
So might as well collect the good will,
even if it’s just a minimal amount

I put that exact trade on here a couple weeks ago
Pretty reasonable imo
They’re supposedly pretty high on Thomas,
but they also have Kyrou & Kostin as higher end forwards about ready for the NHL
And I’d be cool with adding in the goalies |

Vince Dunn was their top ranked prospect last year before he spent the whole season with the Blues. Picked after Guhle in 2015.
Robert Thomas was their 20th OA selection in 2017 (comparable to Mikael Backlund)
Then you get pick 29.
So two firsts and a basically 1st. Which is three 1sts. |

I have a feeling people here think Allen is better than he actually is.
He's..pretty much Lehner. |

We already gained the good will of sending him to California because he sucked so bad that he couldn't make the worst team in hockey. We save 667k against the cap by not buying him out
This is a business, not a charity. By July 1, he will have made $23 of his $25 million.
Good enough. The Sabres don't owe him anything further, and he has no right to be bitter.
