Erod's here, Davidsson is a LW/C, Estephan is no longer Sabres property, Hurley is a bust. Oglevie is a wild card. So, 2, maybe 3 non NHL centers. None are top 6. Thomas immediately becomes the best (most talented) center prospect

You trade your top tier 2C in the NHL and get back a guy who will be regulated to 3C duty his entire career behind Jack and Casey. Thomas had an AMAZING playoffs with Hamilton but he won't unseat Jack or Casey.

This is about the least important decision imaginable. 666k cash savings vs a 666k cap hit next year. I'd just buy him out and move on, but it's completely defensible and I really don't care in the slightest if they go the other way.

You're right, no need to be a Richard. Sorry if I took it too far, but you're saying there's no benefit to that extra 667k in cap space, but I'm still not sure what you think the added benefit of buying him out versus letting him pick any minor league city in NA to play hockey that will accept him.

I don't think a hockey player is gonna hear that Matt Moulson is bought out and say "That was nice of the Sabres to do," nor should the Sabres be expected to do it
