As I mentioned, none of Matthews, Nylander or Marner are UFA. It is very likely Matthews and Marner will get paid either this summer or next. It is also quite possible that Nylander - will either get signed at the right number or be given a bridge contract. That is an option the Leafs have and is not only a negotiating strategy but a way to defer cap spending to a later date. It comes with risks from both sides. Sign JT and spend money on a good NHL D-man, if needed, defer Nylander until Marleau is UFA in 2 years.

4OA for Nylander, Liljegren and 25OA
Nylander isn't motivated enough as Matthews sniper.
Seems like a top-9 winger who has the ability to be a 1st line talent for small stretches of time.
He can be "the guy" in Ottawa no longer in the shadow of Matthews and Marner.
It's a huge gamble for Ottawa, however, drafting Tkachuk I think would be very beneficial for the Leafs.

Can someone enlighten me, what is the Tom Wilson era? Thanks in advance from your meek, mild, dishonest, weak Leafy pal, Zezel.

There's obviously a lot about this that's ridiculous but I'll just say that if the Leafs got the 4th overall pick, Tkachuk wouldn't be the guy they take.

What players crave more than money and fame is ice time. I don't believe TOR with its talented forward lineup can guarantee that. Likewise NYI can give JT a ton of ice time but as the team's workhorse player, Lou has to guarantee a workhorse goalie and a workhorse top d pair that isn't the brittle pair they have now. However Pulock will be the top guy soon and there are still a lot of goalies whom their agents need to find teams for. i.e. WAS may bring in Samsonov etc. So Lou has something to work with. Yes, there are still some wildcards here which other team's can offer.

If Taveras became a Leaf he would instantly get the most ice time, Babcock loves his vets.

I still think NYI will have the best chance to re-sign JT. I'm not sure I would agree that ice time would be an issue, nor would it be as important as winning a cup or two. The latter is not guaranteed, however, JT could be part of a dynamic group at centre - not many better for sure.

But you guys got manhandled by the Bruins?
Why not go with a guy who will bleed for his team and not run away from confrontation?
Who would you be taking at 4 if not Brady?

I would think Martin is a negative asset at this point. His cap hit exceeds his value, so - it would be more like Martin plus a fourth for a baloney sandwich.
- winsix

and that baloney better be fried.

Once Martin has been paid his bonus money than he's a cheap player to have.

with Lou gone, does Dubas relaxes on the players hair length. He was a better player when his hair was longer.

Far too curious to see how Chiapet is going to (frank) up this year.

Assuming the top 3 go as is expected (Dahlin, Svechnikov, Zadina) then I'd take one of Bouchard, Dobson, Boqvist, or Kotkaniemi.
