It means prospects don't all pan out just because you want them to. - Unholy_Goalie
No. But I don't understand the correlation of Dermott making it means Lillybust won't. Or vice versa.
I don't see what either player has to do with the other. |

It's one thing to be too good for the AHL and to get a chance at the NHL, it's another to be a regular NHLer. I'm not saying they can't do it but if you look at every team out there and their top 5 prospects in the AHL system, very few of them go 5 for 5. There are a couple that make it and the others don't. If you're lucky, it goes 50/50.
It's also one thing to play 200 games and it's another to be effective for 200 games and beyond. Matt Martin has played 200+ games. Quality games? - Unholy_Goalie
Matt Martin probably wouldn't make the jump in today's NHL. |

Okay, look at the 2011/2012 Norfolk Admirals. They won the Calder Cup too. Look at that roster and see how many regular NHLers they have. Not every single guy panned out, even the ones putting up huge numbers. Some did, some didn't, pretty 50/50. And then look at the ones that were effective players and the ones that are just fringe players.

But he played 200+ games. If that's the bar, it's pretty low. You'd hope to get some effective players and I'm sure some of these guys will be but not all of them will be. That's just the nature of prospects and player development. You're not going to get every single one of the top guys go through. And if they do, it's something really special.

Yes and we're agreeing with you that not all prospects make it. That's a given. That's understood. We're in agreement. What we are all wondering is what the (frank) does Dermott making it have to do with Lillybust? The same question about Johnsson and Grundstrom.
Why can only 2 of those 4 players make the NHL?.
Is this just a mistake you made and as per you're going to argue until your blue in the face?

We're champs! All that matters.
Was there front row corner in Hamilton in 07 to see the Dogs win it, and seeing the Marlies tonight was just as sweet I think if not more so! |

that was Vintage Kerry Fraser crap right there... a fine tradition of panicking and totally not handling a pressure situation.

I'm saying it's 50/50. It could be Dermott and Liljegren who make it and the two forwards don't. Sometimes guys are fighting for the same spot on a team so that could make a difference too but it was to illustrate how it's 50/50 and how not every guy is going to make it. Look at that team, one guy out of the top 5 playoff scorers is an effective NHL regular. And they got some good guys from that team. But not all of them. So when someone lists 7 guys who are going to play 200+ games, it's a little overly optimistic especially if you're expecting quality players and not just a guy who floats through 200 games. |

Because that how it works. Dermot makes it guaranteed lilybust doesn't. They are tied to each other somehow, don't quite know how or why but they are. Only one makes it. If one of them makes it the other doesn't. Maybe another dman makes it like Nielsen but not lillybust |

Dermott, Johnsson are locks to be NHLers. Grundstrom and Liljegren look very promising.

Absolute 0% chance only 2 of Dermott, Loljegren, Johnsson and Grundstrom play more than 200 NHL games.
This harkens back to the time you tried to convince me the Matthews PP unit was the Leafs' 1st unit and Marner the 2nd.
Shame on you. |

Sorry flagged this post in error.
I think all 4 of Dermott, Liljegren, Johnsson and Grundstrom make it.
Grundstrom is Komarov's replacement.
Dermott and Johnsson are both NHL quality players and Liljegren is gonna be awesome in 2 years, he drew some comparisons to Erik Karlsson. |

Poor guy can't even be traded to another team to try and make it. He's just done at that point. Dermott better watch out for his kneecaps in game 199. |

Playing 200 poopty games doesn't do the Leafs very much good.
I never said only two are allowed to make it. Just trying to illustrate how it's 50/50. Alexandre Picard (playoff MVP), Trevor Smith, Cory Conacher and Dustin Tokarski looked promising for Tampa Bay in 2012 but Palat, Johnson and Killorn are playing for their team in important roles and the former, aren't.
Just saying, you listed 7 guys who'll play in 200+ games. I think that's a little overboard, 2 or 3 is a little more reasonable and much more likely. |
