Poor guy can't even be traded to another team to try and make it. He's just done at the point. Dermott better watch out for his kneecaps in game 199. - walshyleafsfan

Absolute 0% chance only 2 of Dermott, Loljegren, Johnsson and Grundstrom play more than 200 NHL games.
This harkens back to the time you tried to convince me the Matthews PP unit was the Leafs' 1st unit and Marner the 2nd.
Shame on you. - walshyleafsfan
Top 5 scorers for the 2012 Norfolk Admirals playoff run. Only 1 played 200+ games (not the playoff MVP by the way). It's not 0% just like it's not 100%. It's 50/50. I know they just won the Calder Cup and we all love our prospects but the reality is they won't all make effective NHL players. If they all do, that's great, but it'd be a massive over-achievement and not so much an expectation. |

All he asked was games played, not about how good they’ll be.
Dermott, Johnsson are locks to be NHLers. Grundstrom and Liljegren look very promising.
I still don’t understand how only 2 are allowed to make it... - Steven_Seagull
I think Grundsrom will be a NHL'er for sure. But I can see people not calling him a "lock". But I don't see anyway how Dermott, Johnsson, and Liljegren aren't locks.
They're pretty obviously NHL'er's in the making. Unless some kind of insane injury befalls them. |

It's one thing to be too good for the AHL and to get a chance at the NHL, it's another to be a regular NHLer. I'm not saying they can't do it but if you look at every team out there and their top 5 prospects in the AHL system, very few of them go 5 for 5. There are a couple that make it and the others don't. If you're lucky, it goes 50/50.
It's also one thing to play 200 games and it's another to be effective for 200 games and beyond. Matt Martin has played 200+ games. Quality games? - Unholy_Goalie
Matt Martin will earn more than $16,000,000 over the course of his career. |

Grundstrom will replace Komarov in the 2018/19 season. He'll be a regular for awhile |

I completely agree. I've been saying as much since he was drafted.
But I can see how some people might think otherwise. He ain't it, 'till he proves it. |

Nobody is a lock for the injury reason you stated. But if you're going to say "lock", that's Marner, Nylander etc. Those are surefire, top prospect, locks. These guys we're talking about are good but they're not that good.
All four of them have holes in their game and across the board, size and strength is one of them. Considering they're wingers and defenders, size and strength does play a role in their ability to stay healthy and win battles in long, hard fought seasons and series. So that's one thing.
The other thing is ability to play defence for the defenders. Liljegren might make offensive plays but can he play defense in the NHL? That's going to take time. Can Johnsson and Grundstrom score enough in the NHL and if they can't, are they strong enough to be bottom-six forwards? These guys are project prospects for a reason, they aren't Marners or Nylanders. These guys are far from locks even with their promising potential.
Which brings me back to 50/50. You obviously hope all 4 of them become legit contributing players but to actually expect all of them (including names like Moore, Marchment, Rosen etc. that were also listed by others) to pan out is being overly optimistic. |

"A real championship caliber team would have won in 4 games, not 6. Past championship teams would all put these Leafs to shame. And they'd have 6 guys from their AHL team make their team and be stars."

Playing 200 poopty games doesn't do the Leafs very much good.
I never said only two are allowed to make it. Just trying to illustrate how it's 50/50. Alexandre Picard (playoff MVP), Trevor Smith, Cory Conacher and Dustin Tokarski looked promising for Tampa Bay in 2012 but Palat, Johnson and Killorn are playing for their team in important roles and the former, aren't.
Just saying, you listed 7 guys who'll play in 200+ games. I think that's a little overboard, 2 or 3 is a little more reasonable and much more likely. - Unholy_Goalie
Why didn't the promising ahl vets who were 25-26 never make a dent in the nhl??? Hmmmmm
We're talking about Dermott and lilgren who are 18 and 20. Not a single player on the Norfolk roster similar to them. Johnsson 22, not 26. |

Can't find a single Jack A. Butterfield winner that was a good player. Couple good goalies though. Hope Johnsson has better luck than that. - Unholy_Goalie
Oliver Bjornstrand is coming off a 40 point rookie season.
Thomas Tatar has been a 40-50 point guy most of his career... not great, but there’s no way you can’t consjder him a “good” player. |

Guess the AHL knew who was gonna win this game, despite the incredible efforts put forth from the officials.

Because Martin was a goon who's position is becoming more and more obsolete and I'd rather have a guy making the league minimum on the 4th line than waste 2.5 million on Martin. Doesn't mean Marchment gets 20 games this year, much less 82 or eventually 200. Maybe his family name will get him a few games like Carter Ashton or Christian Hanson though. |

Considering that trophy cost them all of 20 bucks, they probably had multiple name plates printed and stuck the one they decided on at the end. |

I get that this is a joke on the price on how the trophy looks, but people really underestimate the cost of trophies nowadays. A nameplate alone costs around $15. It's insane. |
