I mean, the shade of doubt is always there, but the percentage of guys who walk away from their clubs is small enough to not be afraid to draft the potentially elite talent or high quality talent for a guy that won't develop in time to know what you have in him (ie CHL guys)

I'm still a fan of Zemgus. For a 14th overall pick, he won't be that top 6 player we all hoped for but dang it... I like him as our 3LW/C as long as the AAV doesn't dramatically increase. He was our top scorer and 20 goal scorer at one time.

That is what Kelly Pegula tweeted less than a week ago. I don't think that the Sabres would like to get involved with the issues that Hoffman and his fiance are dealing with. They may have talked, but that is a GMs job. Scope out the situation to get a feel as to what is really going on and not just what's being reported. If anything, maybe he was calling about the availability of Karlson, whom I don't want to pursue.

Ottawa is a disaster and it is taking a toll on everyone. If they could get Ottawa to eat salary it may be worth the risk.

Him going to Minnesota is a plus with Housley having roots there (and his wife a Senator there), I don't think it would be as big a risk as other collegians may be.

Secondly, I think it is important to have some college draftees to offset others who would require a contract sooner. Allowing players to develop in college helps keep your total contracts below the 50 contract max.
