If we can’t get #3 from MTL,
I’m targeting #7 from VAN...
and happy to take Wahlstrom
Thoughts? - jdfitz77
I don't think a top 10 pick is coming. If it does, I jump at it all day. It's easy to make a case for any of the top 10 prospects, if they can swing a deal.

None of that comes close to saying that “Skinner is a ridiculously inadequate player to O’Reilly” |

Everyone seems to think the sabres are gonna be trash next year. The canes could end up with ROR and Hughes in a 12 month span - jcragcrumple

Nope
McNabb & Schmidt we’re paired together
Theodore didn’t even start the season in Vegas, he was sent down
I didn’t watch them a ton throughout the season, but i did see the playoffs
Theodore was paired with Engelland - jdfitz77
According to LeftwingLock it had Theodore with Schmidt as their top pair in the playoffs. |

Good move for him.
He can now go somewhere get paid handsomely and get another shot at a cup.
Heading to Long Island maybe? - ImThatGuy
There was a clause in his contract that if he won the cup he would qualify for a 2 year extension; but he was already being paid only 1.5M, so he turned it down.

I think MTL has to at least consider it
Even if he’s a reasonable GM,
and not a total bonehead...
He’s still in a position where they need to win this year to save his job
So with that in mind...
who’s gonna help him save his job more-
O’Reilly or Kotkaniemi?
By the time Kotkaniemi is helping MTL win,
Bergevin will be working somewhere else
With Vancouver,
TSN has that pick on their trade board
So I’m just being hopeful there as well
Idk if they even would want O’Reilly? |

False alarm.
He resigned.
There was a clause in his contract that if he won the cup he would qualify for a 2 year extension; but he was already being paid only 1.3M, so he turned it down. They resigned him to a larger deal. - BareMetal

They weren’t
I can assure you
Actually just rewatched game5 of the Cup last night
And as a big McNabb fan,
I’ve been paying attn to how he was being used
Theodore actually didn’t play that well for them in the playoffs
Especially in the Cup |

Idk how highly they value ROR, but I think they'd have to consider it.
Two chances at Hughes plus ROR and Nylander. |

You have the 2nd overall pick.
Are YOU trading it for ROR, next year's first and Nylander?
Answer honestly. - Powerslave
If i NEED a Center, and still think Nylander has pick8 potential...
I’m at least considering it
Biggest problem with that is a team still being high on Nylander
I’ll bet there’s only a couple (if any) |

I think you know it's not happening. Bergevin doesn't have autonomy to mortgage the teams future like that. I think you also know Van probably won't give up #7 either.

I'm putting the shoe on the other foot, that's all.
I don't care how bad you need a center.
If the Sabres had the #2 two pick this year, and traded it for ROR, that team's first next year and a prospect that half the league is down on, we'd burn the Sabres offices to the ground. That's the point I'm making. Carolina isn't trading that pick |

Trotz................ I would have already dumped Housley. - SABRES 89
I’m not generally a fan of doing things like this, but....
Trotz is proven to be a really good coach,
even before this Cup run
The way he “handled” Ovie,
and got him to buy into a “team” concept & actually try on defense...
Makes me think he could work with Jack & any attitude he might have
I don’t hate Housley like some others seem to,
but i think Trotz is clearly an upgrade
and could be the perfect coach to handle all the youthful talent we’ve got |

To Montreal - O'Reilly, 2019 2nd
To Buffalo - Jonathan Drouin, Max Pacioretty and a 2018 second rounder
To NY Rangers - O'Reilly
To Buffalo - Chris Kreider, Libor Hajek and a 2018 first rounder (TBL)
To NY Islanders - O'Reilly, 2019 2nd
To Buffalo - 2018 12th-overall, David Quennville, Linus Soderstrom - Michael Pachla
Chicago - O'Reilly, Rights to Lehner ($7,500,000 total cap hit),
Buffalo - 8th pick in this years draft, 3 round pick (Toronto's pick), Anisimov, Forsberg, Hossa contract, and a "b" level prospect, ($10,575,000 total cap hit), - -Doh-
These are just silly. For a generational talent like Ryan "Tim Horton" O'Reilly, you need to get good value, not these throw-away deals. I see only 3 possible destinations:
To Edmonton - Ryan O'Reilly, 2045 5th rounder
To Buffalo - Connor McDavid, Jesse Puljujarvi, 2018 and 2019 1st rounder
To Toronto - Ryan O'Reilly, 2038 3rd rounder
To Buffalo - Austin Matthews, William Nylander, 2018-2022 1st rounders
To Pittsburgh - Ryan O'Reilly
To Buffalo - Sidney Crosby, Jake Guentzel, 2019 1st rounder, 2019 2nd rounder
I mean, as you can see, you're never going to win a deal when you're trading Ryan "better than Gretzky" O'Reilly, but these are about as close to fair value as you'll get.
You're welcome. |

He doesn’t?
They keep letting him make dumbass trades
And i heard the VAN GM day he’s not trading #7,
but it’s curious that the pick is listed on the TSN trade board
Must be some chatter behind the scenes
Obviously i don’t KNOW what teams will do
But with those 2 picks,
there’s at least reasons to think “maybe?” |

Why can’t you back a player on potential impact on your team ? You pay a player for future performance not what he did in the past. Dahlin doesn’t have an NHL resume should we trade him for Karlsson because he’s a proven commodity ? Whether a player is 18 or 26 there is still potential when put in different situations. |

Coaching means nothing. Only need culture and talent to win Cups. When a team is out of the playoffs by early December, and the previously NHL-best power play is dead last, it's all on the players.
(At least according to some)

You don't fire Phil to take a shot at getting Trotz. It's almost a lock that he knows where he wants to go already. If you fire Phil and lose Trotz, you have an unfathomable mess on your hands and you're paying 3 head coaches next season.

Just trying to fit in with all of the other armchair GM offers I've seen in here today.
I thought ROR was a decent 2-way center who can put up decent numbers and help on both ends of special teams. I didn't know he was a generational superstar. |
