I took ALOT of poop on here for suggesting the Sabres retain ROR for one, one more year. So, welcome tot he club.
We all know that Mitts is talented, we should be able to throw him out there and he will be great. - IonSabres
Im not sure if protecting mitts (if he even needs it) is worth the chance RoR takes a huge step back this coming year. I think RoR is at his highest value right now |

OR trade ROR to improve your group AND sign a guy to a 2-3 year deal that can protect Middlestadt. |

Evnder Kane just got a $49MM contract over 7 years after everything he went through.
Seymeon Varlomov is still a goalie in this league.
ETC, ETC. - ImThatGuy
He was actually innocent, and was awarded a hefty amount of money, for mere mortals anyway, maybe not for an NHL player that makes $6M a year.

If that's all Botts does, then yeah, we're a bottom 5 team again, and looking for a coach and gm again, and WITHOUT a first round pick next year. - Powerslave
So why wouldn't Carolina do that? They'd probably pick in the same place, if you're right, and they'd get ROR and Nylander on top of it.
I feel like you're trying to have it both ways: Carolina would be crazy to do it, and Buffalo shouldn't do it |

How much do you think Neal and JVR are going to get on the open market ? The going rate for a 1st LW is 7M whether it’s Skinner or anyone else. - Pegullaville
Putting Skinner in the same category as Neal or JVR is a weird thought my man.
I wouldn't mind signing either of them but not Neal to a long term deal.
I don't mind the idea of Maroon or Vanek as a short term 2/3LW though if we can't trade for better depth. |

Carolina has no idea what Buffalo's moves will be this summer. If they're that dumb to trade us Svechnikov (a player with 40 goal, and 3-zone game controlling potential), then by all means.
My point is, they're not that dumb. |

I'm guessing because Skinner isn't 6'3. And that's not a dig at JVince |

Take a look at what Vancouver had to give up to get both of the Sedins. I don't think I'm that far off |

Again, I don't know what is so appealing about your trade proposal. Sorry, but if I'm Carolina's GM, and you want pick number 2, you're sending me Mittelstadt back in any package. |

Points last 3 years:
Skinner - 163 (.36 G/ Game)
JVR - 145 (.39 G/Game)
Neal - 143 (.35 G/ Game) |

We should be thinking bigger (not Murray "heavies" bigger), but 2 or 3 OA with stuff added in from the sabres, or players locked into longer contracts, plus prospects. Skinner is small fish. Expiring contract, looking for a pay day. It doesn't cost ROR to get that |

Maybe it's just me but I see Neal and JVR as more skilled offensively and slightly less crappy on defense than Skinner. None of them are great on defense.
Just looking at their stats comparatively they are actually not terribly far apart are they?
I don't know... I just don't think around the league or fan base people don't think those 3 are all on the same level.

Probably less for Neal bc of his age,
but yeah- it’ll be a proxy contract
But the argument for 1 of them would be that we don’t have to trade O’Reilly to get them |

We don't have to trade him at all, and we can sign Skinner in 12 months for free, and yet most here are ready to sell ROR for a day old sandwich and a used jock strap |

I think Skinner is the most-skilled of the 3.
I don't disagree he's sub-par on D, but what we absolutely need the most on offense is what Skinner does best, score 5 on 5.
I just don't see how we get better there (I know Dahlin helps) without adding guys who excel in that area, and subtracting ones who don't.

how often does a player hit UFA status?
