Yes, Technically Stamkos did in fact hit FA...he just chose to stay with the team that gave him a great opportunity to compete for the cup for several years...he took less money sure, but signed in a location where the tax benefit made the cash value more compariable.
will be interesting to see what Johnny T does.

And Skinner isnt on their level anyway. - IonSabres
Why bother making any trades than. All these players are just going to hit UFA anyways and then will just sign with Buffalo and say (frank) you to the 31 other teams in the league. Super simple |

Let’s just sign James Neal and JVR too I mean they’re both UFA and we can sign them for free not like they have any other teams to choose from.
Someone should probably inform the 31 other NHL teams that you never have to make Trades when you can just sign players for free. |

Trade for RFAs or guys with term like Hamilton, Schwartz, Stone, etc. |

Maybe it's just me but I see Neal and JVR as more skilled offensively and slightly less crappy on defense than Skinner. None of them are great on defense.
Just looking at their stats comparatively they are actually not terribly far apart are they?
I don't know... I just don't think around the league or fan base people don't think those 3 are all on the same level.

The way free agency is these days though if a player like Skinner hits free agency he’s going to get paid. I take JVR and possibly Neal (age makes it iffy) over Skinner as well but it’s supply and demand my friend.

You're playing coy, but you know it's different to trade for a player with 1 year left (UFA) than trading for a guy with RFA status or longer term. That's why the Scandella deal made sense |

No you have it all wrong players hit free agency all the time and then They sign with Buffalo.
It’s confirm that John Tavares will sign with Buffalo he’s A UFA and they only sign in Buffalo because he’s free and this is easy |

I don't care. Jeff Skinner has played in this league for 8 years. His high score is 63 points. Could he have a better year next to Eichel? Sure. But he's not gonna turn into a perennial 90 point player.
At some point, guys are who they are. Skinner's high score is 63. ROR's is 64.
Skinner is not this amazing, underutilized player. He's a one-dimensional scorer, which is fine! But, man, you're acting like we're missing out on Kucherov - jcragcrumple
But yet you wanted Hoffman |

Good move for him.
He can now go somewhere get paid handsomely and get another shot at a cup.
Heading to Long Island maybe? - ImThatGuy
no coach was won cups with multiple teams in the last 60 years other than scotty bowman
so odds are he will not win another cup

Correction: I want to buy low on Hoffman if he dumps his GF. He would not cost anywhere near ROR, and he has 2 years left |

I honestly think we could at least be able to talk to him if we come at him with a competitive offer. Good young core, hockey crazed fan base, Moulson has known him since they played lacrosse together at a young age and still speaks glowingly of Buffalo. Okposo and him are really good buddies. I’m not saying he would ever sign here, but I’m sure he would at least allow us to make a pitch like Stammer did. |

You wanted him before the stuff came out
Skinner is younger and a better score and both will get the same contract
What's the probelm here |

I’m sure Botterill has a plan to acquire a winger in some way, shape, or form. All we can do is sit back grab some popcorn and enjoy the show. Or deliberate here until we are blue in the face and throw insults at one another haha. |

My deal involved both Hoffman and Stone for Reinhart, 2019 first, 32 and Nylander.
One's an RFA, one still had term on the deal. Hoffman's value is in the crapper, so I wouldn't offer anywhere near that
That's obviously (frank)ed now, as you probably can't trade Stone and Hoffman to the same place. So if Hoffman dumps his GF, I would take him for a second or third |

Right on. It's going to be a long week. If RoR isn't gone at/before the draft, next week is going to be even longer. |

I honestly think that is the best angle for JB to pursue. The Habs are DESPERATE for a center and their fan base/price/weber can't wait around to develop one. ROR can play top line minutes. He is head and shoulders better than any other center on the market right now.
Put the screws too um JB! |

Lol. It is quite funny watching you go 200 mph to the extremes on all subjects because someone factually answered a question you asked, and proved you wrong.
But, I digress, keep it going! You live your name every post! |

I was told we could sign Skinner for free so why does that not hold true for any free agent?
Why didn’t we sign Mike Richards? He was a UFA and free? |

John Tavares and Steven Stamkos say hello.
Two of the elite tier of the NHL.
Guys like Skinner who are borderline top or 2nd line guys hit UFA all the time and get paid huge contracts that are regretted 3 years later. - JVince11
Stamkos technically never hit UFA status. He got to the "courting period" but that deal was signed before Tampa would have officially lost his rights. |
