Andrei Svechnikov has apparently separated himself from the rest of the field eligible for the 2018 NHL Draft.
"If you want to know the truth," one scout said, "Svechnikov may be closer to [Rasmus] Dahlin for No. 1 than the rest of the field is to Svechnikov." Bob McKenzie's TSN Final Draft Rankings has Svechnikov as the consensus No. 2 prospect. |

Well, call it what you want, fact is he heard directly from sverals teams on their proposal.
So he was in the FA process. He did not withdraw prior to hearing from other teams. - IonSabres
The fact is you have no idea what was discussed. He did not make it to free agency. That's the only fact here. |

Fake news.
He signed the deal on 6/29. He made it to "able to talk to other teams, but not about contracts". When he signed his deal the only team he could sign with was the Lightning.

Oh, so I guess he never had those meetings with other teams to hear their propsals.
He entered the legal tampering period to gain the benefits of being a FA. |

But he did talk to a bunch of teams when that

can someone explain to me how the caps and barry trotz couldn't come together on a contract?
since ovie was drafted in 2004 and expectations rose, the caps went through four coaches, missing the playoffs three times and not making it past the second round at all...
trotz also had trouble making it past the second round until this year and he got ovie to play the best, most selfless hockey of his entire career on their way to the cup...

If they won the cup he automatically gets a 2 yr extension and his contract goes to 1.8 mill a year. He wanted it renegotiated and they couldn't agree on a price. |

Case of whose Richard is bigger.
I'm on the side of Trotz, good for him...he'll get a nice deal elsewhere. |

Sorry, but I would kick Housley to the curb, I know people won't agree but he's not the guy to lead this team. I hope i'm wrong. |

"[Trotz's] representative wants to take advantage of Barry’s experience and Stanley Cup win and is trying to negotiate a deal that compensates him as one of the better coaches in the league,” Gm John MacLellan told reporters in Washington. “A top-four or -five coach. He’s looking for that type of contract.”
And...
why shouldn't he?...he did something no other coach in Caps history was able to do, win the Cup...and he's fifth amongst active coaches in wins...and his 205 regular season wins were second only to Bryan Murray's 343, which took nine seasons |

Not sure how they came up with the $1.8, but if he wanted to be paid top 5, then that should have been the clause.
Still, the $1.8 m is way, way low...should have been in the $3 -$4 range. Quennville and Babs are $6(+) |
