That kinda sucks - feetontheair22
Kind of. I can definitely see both sides, you have play for 7 years or until you turn 27 before you have any real say in where you go. But it also allows teams to stay competitive.
Edit: It's not as big of a deal as it was before the cap, because then the Rangers just bought everyone and bullied the small market teams, so to prevent that the NHL allowed teams to hang onto their young players for most of their primes. |

Not sure of the exact compensation due, but if you go aggressive, if the teams then chooses to let the p,Ayer go, you have a massive contract on your hands AND a lot o f draft picks going gout to them...so it cripples your ability to grow with younger players on an ECL.
Hence why teams waitg until they have their core builtg and are that 1 pl Ayer away from go g all in.
For a couple if years. |

Yaaaaa....but its Austin Matthews. He's worth it. Plus watching the collective nuclear meltdown in Toronto would be awesome |

Having Dubas be mad at him. That's about it. But Chayka won't do it. The last big-ish one was ROR and Calgary (frank)ed that up, because they wouldn't have gotten him even if Colorado didn't match because since he played outside NA during regular season games he had to clear waivers to play in the NHL, and, luckily for the Avs they were in last place. |

The worst thing they could do to Toronto is a 4 yr @ 16m per (or whatever the max is next year), making him UFA at the end of the deal. Having to match that would drive them insane.

can someone explain to me how the caps and barry trotz couldn't come together on a contract?
since ovie was drafted in 2004 and expectations rose, the caps went through four coaches, missing the playoffs three times and not making it past the second round at all...
trotz also had trouble making it past the second round until this year and he got ovie to play the best, most selfless hockey of his entire career on their way to the cup...
*shakes head* - Michael Pachla
He might just be over the organization and want a fresh start. He won ONE cup, he's not going to get Babcock money. He must just want a change of scenery.

Babcock only won one too, with maybe the most stacked team of the cap era. |

I think babs only has one cup...but you're right, he wouldn't get that kind of money....but he's worth more than $1.8m a year and he deserves more than that two-year extension

Babcock hasn’t won a playoff series since Lidstrom retired. He’s lost his last 7 opening round playoff series. Can win a cup with 5 HOF’s on his team though and coach Canada to a Gold Medal every Olympics. He could probably coach the U.S Men’s Basketball team to Gold every olympics too with the talent they have. I think he’s a fantastic coach, but he’s overrated. |

babcock's a helluva coach...he proved what he could do with a veteran team loaded with quite a few stars....he's presently coaching a very young team loaded with quite a few stars...
we'll see where this leads, but maybe he gets better results with the vets as opposed to the youngins

I think the trade happens. I think they squeeze ROR & McCabe out of us for 3rd overall....but I think it could legitimately happen.
I know this trade would leave us a bit bare at 2C...but we start the the year giving Mitts the chance to earn it. Erod holds down 3C. And who cares takes 4C
Zadina - Eichel - Reinhart
Free Agent - Mitts - Okposo
Girgs - Erod - Baptiste
Wilson - O'Regan/Malone/Who cares - Bailey
Dahlin - Risto
Scandella - Bogo
Guhle - Nelson
Ullmark
Free Agent
Is this gonna win us a cup? No. But it is a roster with a lot of talent that will be together for a long time. - feetontheair22
I’d do that trade
But instead of E Rod at 3C,
we gotta bring someone on & play him at LW
Otherwise,
you’ve got E Rod struggling to put up point playing a defensive role
And since he likely would at least need some help,
Jack would have to take on some of that as well
And that could prevent him from breaking out into a 100pt scorer

You don't think if they threw a 7 year $84M deal at him he would sign it?
Edit: I can't math. $87.5M |

It was weird how McCabe followed almost the exact route as McNabb. Big defenseman who could really throw the body and jump into the rush if needed. Start off looking every bit of the player we expected to be. Year two hits...they start to look lost in their own end. The big hits stop. The offensive production slows. And they end up "expendable."
EDIT: I bet if we trade him there will be a few people on here who constantly bring up the trade to talk about how JB got hosed. - feetontheair22
Are u happy with the McNabb trade?

Andrei Svechnikov has apparently separated himself from the rest of the field eligible for the 2018 NHL Draft.
"If you want to know the truth," one scout said, "Svechnikov may be closer to - SABRES 89[Rasmus] Dahlin for No. 1 than the rest of the field is to Svechnikov." Bob McKenzie's TSN Final Draft Rankings has Svechnikov as the consensus No. 2 prospect.
Bob McKenzie's list also has Brady Tkachuk as #3. I'm not saying that Svecknikov isn't the consensus #2 just that Bob's list is a little off. |

Personally, I would try to sign Riley Nash to be that 2c/3c. He could help shelter Casey and can handle the 2nd line center role for a little while if need be just till Casey has a better handle on it. Then he could be a real strong 3C who can handle most of the defensive roles. That opens up E Rod to play LW instead of Center. |
