If Friday comes and goes without an O'Reilly trade, there will so many people melting down here
- jcragcrumple

If he is going to be traded, I don't think it would happen until after July 1st. His bonus would be paid and teams who miss out on Tavares may be interested in ROR.

If he is traded before the draft it would have to be a huge deal, hopefully including a top 6 pick.

Is Jack Eichel really untouchable in Buffalo? Obviously a young, offensively talented player but I honestly don't get the sense he is going to be a true franchise player.

If you could send Eichel & 2018 2nd to Carolina for Hanifin, the #2 pick & Lindbolm wouldn't you at least consider it?

Lol, the Hawks signed that contract knowing he would never play the last three years, and then he came down with terminal itcher's disease. The league called bullpoop
- jcragcrumple

Sorry. The league approved the contract (July 1 2009). Then three plus years later after the new CBA was signed they changed the rules (January 9th 2013).

No I am really actually cheering for him to be a solid 2nd pairing contributer on this team still. I think he had some good little runs in him in 2016 when healthy. He had like 8 pts in 12 games at one time I think.

I really hope he has a good comeback season as any fan of their respective team should hope.

Bill Masterton trophy winner if he does?

i am sure just about everyone would love to see that happen.. but realistically it doesn't basically or technically seem likely

Yeah, cause and effect. Shady stuff = rule changes. What's it matter? The Hawks got away with it anyway

1. LD Rasmus Dahlin. It’s difficult to come up with a list of comparables for elite talent, because it’s just so rare. Very few players are good enough to hang around Sweden’s top league in their first season of draft eligibility; even fewer manage to excel. For the period from 2006 to 2011, every single defenceman to play primarily in the SHL at age 17 went on to appear in at least one NHL game. In fact, there’s really only one comparable for Dahlin in this window: Victor Hedman. He laps some strong NHL players—at the same age guys like Oscar Klefbom, Jonas Brodin and Adam Larsson played at the same level but couldn’t touch Dahlin’s results. But if you’re reading a draft preview, you already know that Dahlin is all by himself at the top of the draft charts.

It is still amazing to me that Chicago has probably 3 of the top 10 worst contracts in the NHL today... and they don't get more redicule.

Toews, Seabrook, & Hossa. Toews/Seabrooke will take 21M in actual salary this year.

Honorable mention of Brandon Saad. His is at least only 3 more years at 6M.

Never know. I honestly like the idea of putting Dahlin next to him at first in camp on the 2nd line.

I think that if Bogo can play 55+ games and score 20+ pts... I'll consider it a positive year.

From Spector's page

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Bergevin will listen to offers, but unless he’s getting a skilled scoring center as the centerpiece of the return, he won’t move that pick. Perhaps the Sabres are interested in moving O’Reilly, but I think they’ll want more than just the third-overall pick in the deal.

More than 3 OA? I think most here would be happy with just the pick.

Absolutely. And I'd even love him in our sweater but last year was a deeeeeep dive in production from him. If he continues on this 30-35 pt line while paid 6M it could be frowned upon.

He didn't get PP production

His 17 EV goals were tied for 72nd, and his 35 EV points were in the low 100's.

He's still a firm top 6 player at EV. Just not a PP guy

Without sounding too greedy, i'd want a defensive 3rd line center to fill the void and allow Erod to create on the wing without having to worry about faceoffs and defensive responsibilties.

Maybe that would involve a 3rd team in the trade, and Buffalo would give something else up

Maybe Kostin, but there’s no way in the world St. Louis gives up Thomas.

You need to visit the Hawks Blog on this website (Justin Lowe). There is a TON of ridicule. Although 3 cups in the last 8 years muffles it a little.

We will never get that pick for just ROR. I was thinking we would have to add at least #32.

Even before today it was still great content. Nice to read the more Sabre centric articles. Baker’s was like reading a short novel.
