If the Flyers were cup contenders, sure. But they have an influx of depth at center, and that isn't even toying with an idea of moving G back.

Like Toews a lot, just wrong time.

- Pelle31Forever

Right now, assuming Giroux stays at wing, they have Couturier and Patrick as top-6 centers. I like Frost a lot, but he may be a better fit on the wing at the NHL level. Rubstov I'm not sold on, and I don't see Laughton or any other prospects as 3C or higher.

I'm not saying we should pursue Toews, I just think center is actually our position with the least depth.

Give me JVR over Skinner and give me Anisimov over Toews.

EDIT: I don’t think Anisimov is better. I just knows he’s cheaper to get and cheaper cap.

Chicago signed Kane and Toews to the wrong deals at the wrong time.

I agree. I can't believe I was reading he was a third line player where we left off.

I'm not against G going back to center but he definitely looked at home at wing.

- SuperSchennBros

I said third line because if we are truly going to contend you want to go three lines deep. I'd love the left side to go G, TK or Lindblom, Skinner. It's like Kessel when he's on the third line in Pittsburgh.

Of course that still leaves the elephants in the room of a Simmonds trade and 3C

Exactly. And let's not forget that while Skinner can be a top 6 player he's gone long stretches where he hasn't played up to par.

They also traded away pick after pick on rentals. That was bound to catch up with them eventually.

I just thought again of this top 3 lines...

G-Coots-TK
Lindblom-Patrick-Jake
Skinner-Laughton/Rubtsov/Frost-Simmonds

If they don't trade Wayne.

That's pretty good if Laughts or a Kid can nail down the 3C hole.

I know every year fans way overvalue their players, but this years winner has to be ROR. I guess winning the lottery has made people super delusional.

Being the "best" face-off guy in the league must be worth a lot. Some would say Toews is pretty good at face-offs and according to many worth a cup of coffee, but he also brings his own cups filled with Stanley.

I could be a loner here, but I consider Giroux pretty damn good at face-offs too. Would Giroux be worth more than ROR? Not that I am advocating trading G.

HYPOTHETICALLY using the mindset of, hopefully just a few, the Buffalo tards mindset...what would Giroux be worth?

A package consisting of a current NHL roster player (or 2 depending how you offset Giroux’s cap; especially with no retention), a 1st round pick, a 2nd and/or B level prospect. Problem with guys with contracts like ROR and G are you never get “full value” in a trade, imo.

Agreed, I wouldn't mind ROR on the Flyers, obviously for the right price, but it is 5 years @ 7.5M with zero retained salary that makes it scary.

I have seen multiple times someone post 5 years of ROR as a major plus...what?

Lindblom certainly can score in the AHL....but he still looks like Raffl 2.0 to me. great 200 foot game but for some reason, can't get it in the net against NHL goaltending. there is not way, in my mind, he's on a line above a proven goal scorer like Skinner...especially with a playmaker like Jake

Here are some quick gems that took 15 secs to find

"STL: Schwartz + or kick rocks" - jcragcrumble

"If Toews wasn't getting paid $10 million then I would be for it

If Chicago eats 40% of his cap hit then we will talk" - Stripes77

"To Montreal - O'Reilly, 2019 2nd
To Buffalo - Jonathan Drouin, Max Pacioretty and a 2018 second rounder

To NY Rangers - O'Reilly
To Buffalo - Chris Kreider, Libor Hajek and a 2018 first rounder (TBL)

To NY Islanders - O'Reilly, 2019 2nd
To Buffalo - 2018 12th-overall, David Quennville, Linus Soderstrom" - Michael Pachla

Other hits include: 2018 3OA ++ - multiple sources

Where did ROR come from and when did he become a generational talent?

Lindblom has played what...20 some games in the NHL? Just like Patrick, where it took him more than half a season to adjust and he started to look pretty good at times. It takes time. Also I could be wrong, but Raffl was older when he started his NHL career.

ROR would be an ideal add when considering what we need but at the same, would be a luxury. I know in today’s NHL it’s more 3 scoring lines rather than top6 vs bottom 6, but having a 7.5M 3C is (frank)ing expensive. Having said this, having a trio down the middle of Couts—Patrick-ROR is just nasty and could arguably be one of the best 1-2-3 punch in the NHL. He’s a great 200 ft player who is excellent on faceooffs and can do PK. He also could help with PP2. He’s also still in his prime.

i'm aware how long it takes some players. i'm also aware there are just some players who do everything right but can't seem to finish. i would gladly eat crow, but i don't see it with Lindblom.

AND I ESPECIALLY do not see an opening night roster with him skating on a line with Patrick and Voracek in front of Skinnner (barring injury)...which is really the main disagreement here.

Then I agree. IF Skinner was on the team, I don't see Lindblom on the 2nd line either. Lindblom would have to take that spot with both hands.

I agree with most of what you state here but I agree the cap hit is too high. Another downside is he would absolutely take icetime away from Patrick. Any coach would rely highly on a quality 2 way center man like O'Rielly.

Here is the thing.

Would you do O'Reilly for Voracek? Yes you get weaker on the wing but now your stronger in the center. Also when Forst is ready O'Reilly can playwing if needed or Frost moves there.

You also gain a little cap savings.

Not necessarily. O'Reilly can play wing too. I think there is plenty of ice time for 3 solid centers. O'Reilly will also get a fair amount of PK time that Patrick won't.

Lindblom looked great once he got going. His first 12 games, he had chances galore, both for him and his linemates, and nothing was going in. During his last 11 games, when the team was pushing hard for a playoff spot, he had 6 points in 11 games. And remember, this was his first season playing on a NA rink.

I don't see any reason why he can't put up around 35 points next year, especially if he plays with Patrick, which would place him around the top 40 left wingers in the league.

If Buffalo wants to start moving forward and ROR truly wants out, it's a pretty good return. Voracek is one of the better playmaking wingers in the game, and putting him with Eichel would be a great combo.

Buffalo would add a winger to play with Eichel. What wingers do they really have. I know they have Okposo but other then that?
