Casey will make a big impact but not this year... most likely. I disagree drastic changes are not needed, your talking about a young group of kids. Let them grow, they are all still getting better. And YES AS FOR THE BOTTOM 6 forwards they can all go .... our bottom 6 is total crap.
- gordong

Waive em, trade, get rid of em. Bailey, O'Regan, Baptiste, Pu (almost made the team last year), wildcard Olofsson plus cheap FAs, use 32, Nylander, McCabe/Scandella or SJS 1st for a left wing

Let the kids play

Can people stop this. Faceoff % is nearly a pointless stat.

95% of faceoffs don't mean a damn thing.

- ImThatGuy

"Faceoffs don't matter, until they do."
Yogie Bera, circa June 2018.

Can't wait until we throw Jack, Mitts, Erod out there for O zone FO's. with a low 40% win rate.

Begs the question, what has Jack ERod, Larsson done to improve their FO % ... especially with the leagues best on their team for the past 3 seasons?
Commitment to winning, lol.

1.) Rookie albeit should be a stud but there will be growing pains
2.) See above
3.) Who?
4.) How? One player doesn't change this
5.) What players? Casey is one, Dahlin is another, that still leaves holes on the wing
6.) Where were these moves?

So 6 out of your 8 points are all unproven theories or things that hasn't happened

- Stripes77

1 & 2... still improvements on what we had last year... yes or no?

3... just about anyone we bring in to play with Ullmark will be an improvement over last year. Did u forget how AWFUL our goalie tandem was?

4... in- Dahlin, Guhle, Nelson
out- Beaulieu, Falk, Gorges, Tennyson, etc
It’s a pretty damn obvious improvement

5... i didn’t say Botts is finished filling holes
The discussion is whether or not we will be better this year, not whether or not we will be Cup Contenders THIS season
Guys with speed are coming up, and even those in secondary roles will be helpful

6... Moulson, Gorges, Pouliot, Nolan, Criscuolo, Griffith, Tennyson... all gone
And there’s a pretty decent chance that more will be gone (Larsson? Girgs?), and others will have much reduced roles (Pommer, Girgs if still here, etc)

You cannot seriously be this dense of a person are you???

I mean, clearly, your hatred for ROR runs VERY deep but there is no physical hockey fan that misunderstands the game this poorly is there?

- JVince11

You just cant help yourself with insults.

Well there is the fact that Ryan O'Reilly himself said that faceoffs arn't that important.

25 wins. changing the bottom 6 maybe gets us to 30.
- ImThatGuy

90% of what I posted had nothing to do with the bottom 6...

Our top4 defense will be better with Dahlin and Guhle...

Our Top6 will be better with Mittelstadt...

Our Goaltending can easily be improved...

Who is talking about ONLY changing the bottom 6?

Tampa Bay was 27th in faceoff wins.
Colorado was 31st
Vegas was 22nd

Buffalo was 7th
Carolina was 1st

There are certain scenarios where winning a FO is important.

Over the course of the season, winning faceoffs and driving possession do not correlate in the slightest.

You should really go back and read the context of that quote when he said they are overrated.

do you consider Zadina parts?
- Shadman306

No
But i consider “parts” to be...
-a mid-1st (which certainly isn’t helping this year & is about 50/50 to ever make an impact)
-a decent roster player (that means 3rd liner to me, & those guys are available as UFAs, so why trade for them?)
-2nd round picks or “b” prospects

Expected Changes in Top 6 = 33% -> 50%
- 1st LW
- 2nd LW
- ROR (50/50, or maybe 75/25)

Expected Changes in Top 2 Pairs = 25%
- Dahlin

Expected Changes in G's = 100%
- Lehner
- Johnson's Johnson

Expected Changes in Bottom 6 = 33% -> 50%
- one of Larsson / Girgs
- Nolan
- Pouloit

Expected Change in 3rd Pairing/7th D = 66%
- Gorges / Antipin
- Fedun / Beaulieu

Clearly the NHL thinks that faceoffs are important, they keep track of stats, Penalize a team when icing the puck and or taking a penalty with the faceoff in their zone.. But hey they don't matter much.

(frank) that guy with a rusty sword

So poopbag Rod's team won and ROR's broke a record for lowest ranked NHL team in history?

Great. Shows you the significance of the FO.

Becuse the guy on the Sabres did it.

There is no correlation at all to Face off % = puck possession = winning

Why would anyone want to dump ROR for only parts, only cap relief, or a combo of the two?

Every single person here realizes he's our most valuable, tradable asset.

- TheSabresTaco

Well you must not be familiar with Sbroads & 365’s idea of what they’d take back for ROR

365 specifically has said he “doesn’t believe we can get a core piece back for O’Reilly”

Just the other day, Sbroads said he’d take pick 11 & a decent roster player
How does that help us this year?
It doesn’t

Several people have suggested a couple second rounder and a prospect or a cap dump. Others have suggested ROR for an expiring contract. Both bad ideas imo

But yet you want to trade our top RHD for a winger and have Bogo be our best RHD.

And also want to trade our top FO guy and 2C so that a kid w/ 6 games under his belt is our 2C.

they are right though, 95% of them really don't matter...however, there are several during a game that matter...and then they matter pretty significantly.

We won't miss it, until it is important those 5 times per game.
