and this is a bad thing? Bowl-u is not very good... - hehateme
I really don't mind the idea of some of these guys coming to camp to win a job. With his play last year and cap hit, I don't think you can trade him for much. Let him fight it out.

The biggest faceoff of the entire NHL season was won by Lars Eller, a 49% guy and a third line center.
It's not like RoR wins 80% cleanly or something. - Lunaion
no, not 80%...that would be phenomenal.
just a mere 60%, while the rest of the team went at a 45% rate collectively. |

yes, I was frustrated with the Mitts pick last year ... from a position perspective since they were obviously so devoid of D talent...a gapping hole.
Similar to the LW gappign hole this year. - IonSabres
The one thing I would have gotten right is I didn't like the Nylander pick. I wanted the Russian Dman. That was a stupid pick. |

If u substitute “scoring chance” then I’m with ya
About 80% (guessing, maybe more) of shots don’t have much chance of being a goal unless the goalie screws up or they’re deflected |

It's crazy as can be.
Happy to have written my final daycare payment of my life. That'll be an extra $1300 laying around every month.
I come around for certain events. Probably disappear after the draft for a bit again. |

But it’s been proven that shot attempts = more wins. Again, not the only factor, but one of the most important
It has not been proven that faceoff wins = wins
That’s the difference |

In our case, among the worst in the league in shots and dead last in shooting %. If you want to see a strong correlation to winning, not much better than shots and shooting %. |

That's the point, it's still pretty close to a coin flip. Sometimes the coin falls in the mud, but you have to pick a winner anyways.
When it was all on the line this year, it was a 49% guy vs a 48% guy.

he seems to be happy with his game, when in fact he has miles to improve. - IonSabres
I’m not saying he was definitely the problem either
I do think a lot of these locker room issues go away once we start winning games
And i think that starts this year |

Of course faceoffs on their own don’t = a win
No one said that
Doesn’t mean they aren’t important though
How much worse do u think our PP would be if Jack is losing those draws and costing us 20seconds or so to be run off?
Even when faceoffs don’t directly lead to goals, it still factors in
You discount them way too easily |

Eichel was 41% O’Reilly was 60%. Which in terms of faceoff stats that’s like the largest gap there is.
And yet it still would only be a 1 out of every 5 faceoff difference. |

Sure,
But I bet Eichel’s % on the PP would be even less, since he’d almost always be going up against the other teams’ best faceoff guy
This is the problem i have when u take a stat like his overall faceoff % and then just apply it to a specific situation
It’s not gonna be the same,
yet u talk like there won’t be a difference |
