Is the kid Veleno as likely to play at 3C for 6-10 years as a swing for the fences guy might bust?
I understand that guys don't always have elite skill and just aren't capable of putting up 50 points
But holy hell. There are worse fates than being Lars Eller |

That's all fine and true but if I'm picking in the top 20 I'm shooting for a high ceiling player instead of a surefire dece player. That's the biggest reason he fell into the bottom 3rd, where teams will gladly grab a middle six guy |

Berggren is still there....wonder if Hextall would be ok with drafting another forward should he be available. |

No 2nd is an issue. I'd love to snag him though |

We have a 2nd. No 3rd. I don't know how we'd trade up. It'd be tough. And we already took 2 5'11 forwards, though all 3 are quite physical and very different and play 3 different positions (sort of). But it's not likely. If they trade up, it's probably for a d-man. |

I agree, but damn, they were kinda hard on the kid on one of the biggest nights of his life when he was already sliding
I mean, I get it. I do. But he didn't rate himself as a first-rounder, you know? It's excruciating to hear them be so hard on a kid when they aren't always right -- don't let Craig Button fool you. When he got the knife in Calgary, he had run that franchise into the ground as a GM

I get the excitement of the draft, I do.
A part of me does wonder when the hell this team will finally take that next step into the upper tier of NHL clubs. A lot of mediocrity in this league.
It’s been a long time since that Chicago series. Hopefully it comes soon. I trust the scouts I guess. |

Lol I'm dumb. Had it backwards
Either way, I think it's a slim possibility unless they're in love with a few mid round Dmen and consider it a good move to take 3 forwards folled by some D with later picks. But like you said, how do you trade up? Then you wouldn't have as many later picks to grab some dmen. We'll see! |

They had him pinned as 14th best in the draft and with each pick after 20 were saying "Veleno has to go here right?"
How were they being hard? |

Thought they were savage on his hockey sense and potential upside. Button all but said he couldn't play higher than the fourth line
That's fine. But they never loop back and own when their hype train goes off the tracks -- guys like Scottie Upshall were top 10 picks, and he was never more than a high-end 3W
That's not a crime

Provorov and Ghost look to be no brainers to protect, so that leaves 1 more they'll be able to protect out of:
Sanheim
Hagg
Morin
Myers - pinkfloydfreak
i think you can protect 4 def(myers) and one less forward. i wouldnt protect voracek |
