i think you can protect 4 def(myers) and one less forward. i wouldnt protect voracek

Its 7 Forwards and 3 D or 8 total skaters. 8 skaters won't make sense.

I get the excitement of the draft, I do.

A part of me does wonder when the hell this team will finally take that next step into the upper tier of NHL clubs. A lot of mediocrity in this league.

It’s been a long time since that Chicago series. Hopefully it comes soon. I trust the scouts I guess.

That was what I was saying earlier. I’m tired of hearing that this player or that player doesn’t put them “over the top” so they shouldn’t acquire them.

At some point you have to add talent from outside of the draft. Not Boyd Gordon, not Riley Nash, not Dale Weise.

I’m not asking for them to get the best player on the market, but I’d like to see them be more aggressive.

free agent signings of over 30 year old players rarely turn out good, who would you like they to go after that is a fa this summer?

Doesn’t have to be free agents. A guy like Hamilton for example.

Pittsburgh is a good example of a team that has been aggressive in adding outside talent to their core and supplemented with their young players. It has worked out pretty well for them.

They will be when the right time and the right deal presents itself. Why fill a hole that you have now with a big free agent when you think a prospect can fill it in a year or two? Just to accelerate the process? Free agency should be used to fine tune or fill that one hole that you can't fill internally.

The cost for Hamilton would be high.

So after a night to sleep on it how does everyone feel?

They must be in love with O’Brien big time. I have to trust the scouting here.

Two kids that have a chance to be top 6 forwards....apparently great character and skill to go along with strong work ethic...solid first round.

I'm feeling good. Love Farabee and now that I've had time to take a closer look at O'Brien, I can see what their scouts see in him. Add those 2 to a group that consists of Patrick, TK, Lindblom, Frost, Vorobyev, Rubtsov, Allison, Aube-Kubel, Ratcliffe, and you have a pretty nice group of good young NHL forwards and forward prospects.

Will be interesting to see what transpires in round 2 and if they make a deal or add via free agency in regards to a 3C and/or adding a penalty killer.

I’ve wanted Farabee for some time so I’m thrilled we got him. O’Brien I know little about, but the way Pierre and Bob were raving about him; saying he’s legit and other teams were even upset we took him there, I’ll trust our scouts. They
Hit on Frost who people said was a reach, let’s hit on O’Brien now

Still a little disappointed they coulndt move up for Bouchard or Dobson but like what I see in both prospects they got. Both remind me of Parise's style of play. Tenacious with a ton of skill and decent speed.

I still love the Farabee pick. As for O'Brien I am not as confident as WhiskeyMan. I do agree the Flyers scouts must really see something great, not good, in him. That's not a pick you make as a project.

That makes what..5 prospects now currently in the college ranks? Obviously Hakstol must have a part in that. I am a little worried about the competition O'Brien has seen so far.

I like this. The contract length is going to be tough, but there aren’t easy replacements for Wayne.

Couple of potential inexpensive FAs that could fill a C role in the short term and help out on the PK

Mark Letestu, will be 33 at start of season and is 5'10 and a solid 195. Last year in 80 games, he put up 9 goals and 23 points. He's solid in the faceoff circle, has decent wheels, some skill and plays a pretty smart all around game. He's also a good PKer. On the downside of his career, but could be a decent one or two year stop gap who won't cost a boatload of bucks. Could see a 1 year deal at 2.75 million or a 2 year deal at 4.25 million (aav 2.125)

An under the radar guy might be Tim Schaller out of Boston. Schaller is only 27 and is a big boy at 6'2 210. Last season, in mainly a 4th line role on a deep Boston team, he put 12 goals and 22 points and played all 82 games. He can also play wing and is a good skater and very good on the PK, netting 3 shorties last year. He's not much of an offensive threat, and only mediocre on faceoffs, but he could be a solid 3/4 center, especially if the other bottom six center is a more offensively oriented player like Vecchione. He won't cost much and 2 years at 3.25 million (1.625 aav) would likely get a deal done.

Would pay the cost for him or someone like him.
Top 4 D right handed shot with size and mobility, coming into his prime years as D, fills a big hole.

Man Pierre stumped hard for O’Brien. I rewatched the pick he called him his guy.

It's such a back and forth thing. I don't want to lose him for nothing (worst case) but want a nice haul for him but don't think the teams interested in him would offer enough fire power for him (assuming their picks are towards the end of the round).

If the term is 4 or less I'm good with it

Insofar as trade rumors go, which team seems like the one most likely to be "drunk and desperate at the bar at 2am"?

Montreal or Ottawa?

Weird. I was watching the Canadian feed and they didn't have a lot of positive stuff to say about O'Brien. Can't seem to find video of the US feed yet.

It's all about the term, much more so than the money. They have the space to allot for today's Wayne Simmonds, who is a beast on the pp, a consistent 30 goal scorer, and a heart and soul warrior and locker room leader. The big question is do you still want to be allotting that cap space when he's 35-36, breaking down physically, has become a bottom six pp specialist that is only generating 7-10 goals at ES?

Unless, it's for a big hometown discount, I really don't want to go past 5 years as the absolute max and would much rather prefer 4, or even 3.

My best offers would be:

3 years at 21.5 million (aav 7.167 per)
4 years at 26 million (aav 6.5 per)
5 years at 29 million (aav 5.8 per)

If he insists on a 6 year deal, the best I'd offer is:
6 years at 31 million (aav 5.167 per)

If he wants 7 or 8, trade him.
