When you look at what they gave Hamilton, Hanifin is probably going to want at least 6.5 a year to lock down long term and the rumours were that Lindholm was wanting 5. Hopefully Treliving is willing to pay that because I'm not a big of a fan of this trade if they're both not signed long term. - Hunkulese
I dont see Tre giving 6.5 to a 21 year old 2nd pairing defenseman. Dougie was older and had been 1st pairing for a couple seasons. Was coming off a 42 point season.
Tre is pretty good at getting players signed to good contracts. I think we'll be pleasantly surprised. I don't see any chance of Hanifin earning more than Mony.
On that same thought though: how the hell did we not get more for a premier offensive defenseman signed for 5.75??? |

If he's not willing to give him 6.5, he's probably not going to get him signed long term. If you're Hanifin's agent, you definitely bring up that the Flames were willing to commit 8% of their cap to Hamilton when they signed him. 8% of their cap now is almost 7. It's also kind of necessary the Flames get him locked up. He's going to be significantly more expensive if they need to sign him in 2 years.
When you look at what the Flames gave up to bring in Hanifin and Linholm, they're clearly extremely high on both of them. Any decent agent is going to get Hanifin around 6.5. |

With the way salaries are rising I think it would be smart. |

We should have a pool going but i think Hanafin gets a 6 year deal at around 5.8mill per & Lindholm gets 7 years at 5.1mill per. |

Horrible trade. Yes the Flames underperformed last season but to blame one of their best players is conpletely asinine. I guess our gm puts more stock into intangibles then he does into analytics. Very disappointing. |

You’ve missed the point, we ditched a dressing room problem and added a right winger with scoring ability. We also got a really good young d man.

I wouldn’t mind the flames taking a run at reaves for fourth line duties and make up for ferlands toughness |

Seems like a good trade. Starting to wonder about hamilton, hell of a player but two teams now have ditched him. Hanifan is good, Maybe brodie goes back to high level playing back with gio? - Tocchet2292
Yeah. Thinkin the same. His offence and fancies are impressive, but he does have some flaws.
I guess the flames must be pretty high on hanifin turning out. Lindholm ain’t a star scorer, but a super solid piece anyway |

Bridge hanifin. They can come back to bite you, but Its really the only prudent move I think.

It’s also possible Calgary re-signs ferland after this year and we traded Dougie for two 5th OA players.
This is if he’s not butt hurt. |

I think Carolina won this one but I think the real picture could be th savings in cap space. Maybe Calgary is looking to make a splash on July 1st. |

It's starting to come out now that Dougie skipped all his exit interviews, coaches and media alike.. sounds like he was becoming a douchbag. Pissed off his bosses, pissed off his teammates. Good riddance then I say. |

I think the deal is underrated. Lindholm is going to be much better than Ferland and Hanfin has the same potential Dougie had when he was his age |

Also in Tre's interview he spoke about Fox's agent said there was little chance Fox was going to sign in Calgary or Canada. |

Even if they both get bridge deals, the cap savings would be minimal.

Both Lindholm and Hanifin need new contracts.
Carolina may be the ones that ended up saving cap space, which is incredible. |
