Scheifs - Stastny - Little - Lowry down the middle
Once Roslo or Appleton are ready - give them 3rd line then, over time, move em up to 2nd ... if Little still around, move him to wing as been done in the past
Shed Myers, Mason, Enstrom, and Matthias (the latter 2 have already packed) and you free up $17.5M of cap
Friedman suggested packaging Mason up with a prospect (Petan, Dano, Spacek - one of em take your pick) and maybe a low draft pick for a high draft pick(s) ... I'm ok with that - not gonna miss any of em and Mason too expensive for a guy with a soft noggin
Myers for pick(s) and prospect(s) ... fill the cupboards without spending the big coin, now
Poolman slips in 3rd pairing at $900k with Morrow, Chariot, or Kuli ... Niku slips in 2nd pairing with the Byf at $775k
I've said this before - to go deep again next season we f_ckin need Stastny ... who else do we get ?!?!? ... Roslo and Appleton aren't ready ... Tavares won't happen ... O'Reilly is $7.5M/yr (although if there's one team we know we can trade with it would be Buffalo)
Statsny is already proven with the Jets roster ... SIGN HIM !!!!! - CorydonKeith
I 100% think Roslo will be ready by next years playoffs and who knows what kind of shape or health a 34 years old Stastny will be in is almost as big a question mark to me.

Appleton likely isn’t. The other 3 absolutely are. |

Roslovic ready for 2nd line center by playoffs? Maybe, but that's certainly a gamble. No matter, I think he showed enough to be the 3rd line center next season, i.e. not the Lowry line, whether or not we sign Stasny - Play Brian on the wing.
Stasny is 2 years older than Brian - the age cited by Pete from which it is all down hill. That said, we would never have beat Nashville without him. So how do we do it this year without him? Also, I've said this before, if we sign Stasny without trading Little we lose Roslovic ro Seattle in 2020. No way around it, without being on the bad end of one of the desperation trades Vegas squeezed out of a few GMs last year.
Mason and Kulikov's injuries would seem to make them untradeable in the offseason so it's Little and/or Myers.
Very tough decisions for Chevy, but his track record makes me optimistic. I mean, is there another GM you would rather have? Poile, maybe equal, but none superior..... |

Its a good point regarding our protection list for Seattle. Bettman has said the rules would be the same. I looked at it last week and determined that our list would likely look like this:
Laine
Ehlers
Wheeler
Stastny / Little/ Perreault . ( only one can stay)
Connor
Roslovic
Lowry
Buff
Morrissey
Trouba
The only question mark might be Lowry. Who knows two years out on him. Chevy will be aware that anyone signing current contract extensions such as possibly Myers or anyone that is currently heading to arbitration would only get 1-2 years anyway since they might be lost to Seattle.

Call it karma or whatever but it just seems right. I don't have a clear argument formed but some sayings come to mind:
dance with the one who brung ya
stay true to your school
don't go changing horses mid-stream
trend is your friend
When carving against the wind your ship needs a good keel/rudder. Players are people first, not regular assets - trust and honor matter. Honorable dealings are the basis of this. - 2.0
Many teams have traded players prior to NMC kicking in. The players are aware of that they could be traded prior to the no move being implemented. |

I think Roslovic and Poolman are ready. Niku needs another half-season in the AHL plus some weight gain.
My comments are based on my opinion. I can only speak for myself. |

2 things :
1-where's Scheiffele?
2- agreed on your point that we can only keep one of Stasny/Little/Perreault if we don't want to lose a piece of our future, but if we don't trade Little and sign Stasny our list is:
Scheifele
Wheeler
Connor
Stasny
Little
Ehlers
Laine
Trouba
Morrisey
Byfuglein
Lose Lowry, Roslovic or Perreault. Chevy may opt to "steer" Seattle toward Perreault. But a lot can happen in 2 years.....

We haven’t signed Wheeler yet either. No way this team lets Roslovic go to Seattle. |

Dohhhh. somehow missed Scheif. My bad. Updated
Scheifele
Wheeler
Connor
Statsny
Roslovic
Ehlers
Laine
Trouba
Morrisey

We are going to lose some talent for sure. Likely Lowry but Jets will make some type of deal to keep him. |

They all have professional experience and looked good at the NHL level. Appleton only has 1 season of pro hockey. Poolman is already 25, and had excellent numbers in his NHL games. Roslovic has two AHL seasons, and excellent NHL numbers. Niku has more pro experience than any of them, and he was the best player at his position in the AHL. Appleton might be ready, but he should probably spend one more year on the little team. |

I like Jetsnation take on it - Mason is an expensive insurance policy. He will be healthier this year. - 2.0
Extremely doubtful he could be LESS healthy this year. I sure hope he is. And then the year after next we sign a more affordable back up. |

After than Pens cap-space clearing trade of Sheary and Hunwick for a mere 4th round pick, one wonders what Chevy might get for our cap clearing assets. The rich get poorer and the poor get richer.
Any adjustments on what people think Dano or Petan might be worth. I'm now thinking its next to nothing. Now its an old three-legged blind mule for Dano and a 5th for Petan. A 2nd for Perreault ( cheaper contract). A 4th for Little ( cap dump).
Edit: How about Kulikov, Little, Dano, Petan, and a 5th for nothing in return. I think its a win for the Jets. |

If Little was a UFA right now, he’d be the third best Center available and absolutely receive a deal exactly like or even greater than what he is signed to here. How is that a cap dump in a trade? Or only worth a 4th? Montreal, islanders (if they lose Taveras) st Luis, Buffalo (if they trade ROR), Vancouver, philly, and others may all have interest in Little.

I truly hope your right, but the reality is that we get Statsny as essentially a free agent so that part is a win. Teams in the league know we need to dump so it's not like they would be making typical reasonable offers. They are all likely lowballing Chevy. If I were Mtl I would definitely want one of Little or Perreault....for sure.....but right now I'd be lowballing.
You can bet if Statsny signs here it wont be announced until July 1st. Same with Trouba. Chevy won't want other GM's to take advantage of knowing the Jets remaining cap space while he is negotiating the cap dumps.

All you need is two teams interested and you have could have a bidding war. I’ll be surprised if anyone pays the supposed asking price for ROR, I wouldn’t!! Nor would I want his cap hit!!
I know I keep repeating this but trading little and signing Stastny to anything over 3 years makes zero sense to me.

I predict Roslovic if given 2nd or 3rd line Center to start the year and 2nd pp time will finish 3rd on the Jets for points behind only Shief and Wheels. |

Myers will finish under 30. Perreault likely teases 55. Myers is also more likely to move than Perreault. |

Ross77 & bennythehat - thanks
Appleton, Niku, Roslo and Poolman - my thoughts:
Appleton - has played 1 NHL game ? ... AHL rookie of the year - not bad honours ... however, as you know, NHL is a different game and centres have lots of responsibilities ... they brought Roslo up to wing to develop him to the speed of the game (and fill in on right side) .... if we don't sign Stastny and need to plug one of these guys in at centre, we need to do it right at the start of the season - right away
Niku - i suggested Niku at starting LHD since i think we're still weak on that side even though we have more bodies (Niku, Kuli, Morrow, Chariot, ... Morrissey is given) ... some nutter went to the prospect camp recently and said the best skater was some kid Jonas Muller ... LHD, 22yrs old ... whatever
Roslo - hey man - if he can step in to centre and produce, GREAT ! ... I want to keep Statsny around until I see that happen ... he can take Little's line with Little on wing and give it a go
Poolman - yes, I think he's proven to be a reliable 3rd RHD ... has some experience now ... if we keep Troubs/Byf/Myers around that is a TON OF F_CKIN Cap spent on RHD
Now I'm reading they may ask Myers to slip over to LHD ... who knows

I really thought that Myers looked good, being paired with Byfuglien during the playoffs. I am curious to see how they produce together throughout the season.

I see Little going to Montreal. They need centers desperately. Could land us some picks/prospects. |
