Dohhhh. somehow missed Scheif. My bad. Updated
Scheifele
Wheeler
Connor
Statsny
Roslovic
Ehlers
Laine
Trouba
Morrisey
Byfuglein
We are going to lose some talent for sure. Likely Lowry but Jets will make some type of deal to keep him. - jetsnation
I'm pretty sure we are obligated to protect any players with NMC. If Little is around he is forced to be on the protected list, along with Perreault. Wheeler's NMC will expire first, however, the next contract may include one. We may not have to protect Connor and Roslovic as they should slip under the required years/games in NHL and be protectable as prospects. I think Sheif, Armia, Copp & Trouba fell into this category for the Vegas expansion.
Please correct me if my ass is lying to me again.

After than Pens cap-space clearing trade of Sheary and Hunwick for a mere 4th round pick, one wonders what Chevy might get for our cap clearing assets. The rich get poorer and the poor get richer.
Any adjustments on what people think Dano or Petan might be worth. I'm now thinking its next to nothing. Now its an old three-legged blind mule for Dano and a 5th for Petan. A 2nd for Perreault ( cheaper contract). A 4th for Little ( cap dump).
Edit: How about Kulikov, Little, Dano, Petan, and a 5th for nothing in return. I think its a win for the Jets. - jetsnation
It was a cap dump - to completely see the value of the trade we need to include the player that Pittsburg eventually signs: ie. Sheary & Hunwick are traded for a 4th & (JVR, Mike Green or James Neal?) |

I predict Roslovic if given 2nd or 3rd line Center to start the year and 2nd pp time will finish 3rd on the Jets for points behind only Shief and Wheels. - Ross77
If Roslovic falters and needs more time before excelling at #2 C position there is always the option of a rental at the deadline, similar to Stasny pickup.

Any word from Chevy on the multi year extension for Hendricks?

You are kind of right. Each team that has a player with NMC is obligated to protect those players unless they waive. Roslovic and Connor can only be exempt if they are on ELC's. Armia and Copp were protected because the Jets made a deal with Vegas swapping first round picks with an agreement that Vegas would take Thorburn. Scheifele and Trouba were part of the 4 forwards, 4 defense men protected. |

I really thought that Myers looked good, being paired with Byfuglien during the playoffs. I am curious to see how they produce together throughout the season. - TheUltimateJet
This experiment will go horribly wrong if Byfuglien shows any age. Myers needs to be covered on defence. Byfuglien can’t do it, so we have to hope they both outdo their defensive issues through offensive firepower. Byfuglien played his best hockey last season, but I’m still worried about pairing a 32 year old hovering just above the “good” mark for defensive ability with a guy firmly in the “bad” defensive ability whos also playing his offside |

I am unsure if mascots have a salary cap. I am sure the Mick E. Moose and Benny would love to add a third to their crew! |

I assumed both Little and Perreault would not be here by then. I believe Rolslovic and Connor will have played more than two full seasons as a pro by then so they would have to be protected. If so then it's all the more reason we have to get rid of Little before the NMC kicks in. |

Oh, yeah. They’re apparently talking 8 years, league minimum. I asked him about it while I was interviewing for assistant GM. |

8years may be a bit much Rexy.
I know you're a big fan of Hendy, but it's out of character for you to let fandom factor into player evaluation... |

Hendy is Dano's self-professed idol so I can see why Rexy might want him around. |

If Little was a UFA right now, he’d be the third best Center available and absolutely receive a deal exactly like or even greater than what he is signed to here. How is that a cap dump in a trade? Or only worth a 4th? Montreal, islanders (if they lose Taveras) st Luis, Buffalo (if they trade ROR), Vancouver, philly, and others may all have interest in Little. - Ross77[/quote]
the interest might require us retaining $1,000,000..... |

We actually protected all 4 of those players according to Wikipedia.....
And (again from Wikipedia)
Rules of the 2017 expansion draft:
"Only players with more than two years of professional experience — NHL or AHL as defined in the collective bargaining agreement — were included in the draft."
So, if I'm reading this correctly, both Connor and Roslovic would need to be protected and probably even Niku and Appleton, if the next expansion draft is June 2020......

Ross77 & bennythehat - thanks
Appleton, Niku, Roslo and Poolman - my thoughts:
Appleton - has played 1 NHL game ? ... AHL rookie of the year - not bad honours ... however, as you know, NHL is a different game and centres have lots of responsibilities ... they brought Roslo up to wing to develop him to the speed of the game (and fill in on right side) .... if we don't sign Stastny and need to plug one of these guys in at centre, we need to do it right at the start of the season - right away
Niku - i suggested Niku at starting LHD since i think we're still weak on that side even though we have more bodies (Niku, Kuli, Morrow, Chariot, ... Morrissey is given) ... some nutter went to the prospect camp recently and said the best skater was some kid Jonas Muller ... LHD, 22yrs old ... whatever
Roslo - hey man - if he can step in to centre and produce, GREAT ! ... I want to keep Statsny around until I see that happen ... he can take Little's line with Little on wing and give it a go
Poolman - yes, I think he's proven to be a reliable 3rd RHD ... has some experience now ... if we keep Troubs/Byf/Myers around that is a TON OF F_CKIN Cap spent on RHD
Now I'm reading they may ask Myers to slip over to LHD ... who knows - CorydonKeith
Exactly, but not at more than 3 years.... |

Exactly. Except Niku and Appleton would be fine. A season is defined as more than 10 games played in NHL. So those one of two game stints Appleton or Niku played don't count. |

A sabres fan posted on twitter a great idea. Trade for Steve mason, he only has one more year and the jets would give you him for free, this allows the jets to sign Stastny and drives up your price on ROR. Now as long as jets don’t sign Stastny over 3 years or we find a taker for Little I’m good, but having both on deals longer than 4 years is not good. |

I found an article which defines the rules clearer. Still a little grey but merits some discussion. I'll have to look at where they are in age at the time of the expansion draft.
http://sinbin.vegas/clari...econd-year-professionals/ - jetsnation
"A player aged 20 or older (based on age on December 31 of calendar year in which the season starts) earns a year of professional experience by playing 10 or more Professional Games under a standard player contract in a given League Year. "
So, Niku, who will be 22 on October 10, and Appleton, currently 22 are both about to enter their 2nd year under a standard player contract. It says "...in a given League year..." implying that more than one league is in effect here, i.e. the AHL. Both will have completed their 3rd years by June 2020..... |
