These slogans must bring back fond memories of Brian Burke's claim:
"We require, as a team, proper levels of pugnacity, testosterone, truculence and belligerence. That's how our teams play" - SensFan25
I wouldn't say fond but you're right to observe the parallels. I hope for the sake of the Sens they jettison anyone holding such backwards attitudes before they can do any more damage.
It has taken a very long time for the Leafs to claw their way back out of the hole Burke and Nonis dug for them and only now have returned to some semblance of respectability. |

I think it's really funny how the Leafs fans have done this 180 over the last two years, and have this holier than thou attitude against everyone else.
Is your future looking bright? Yes.
Have you achieved anything yet? No.
As dim as everything is around our franchise is right now (and we'd be the first to tell you that), we've accomplished significantly more than the Leafs have in the 25 years of the franchise's existence.
You haven't won a playoff round in 15 years. - Jordo
I actually agree with all of this except for the unfounded blanket statement in the first paragraph.
Don't let the dynamics between a small segment of each of our respective fan bases cloud your overall perceptions of the same. |

Love Dorion's new obsession with "character, leadership and chemistry". I think have heard that phrase in the past week as often as I heard "rest is a weapon" during the season.
As the charges against Randy Lee pile up, I think it's important to call out that the priority on "character, leadership and chemistry" applies only to players and their significant others - Ownership and Hockey Ops are clearly exempt. - grim
We saw the same thing when the Leafs were run by Nonis, when you put together a bad team (that you perceive to be good) and run out of answers..it has to be those things..instead of the bad GM doing bad GM things |

The comments coming out of the organization concerning "character" are certainly a response to criticisms and recent events. Everyone on the organizational side are now mentioning it every chance. Character is important but so is elite skill.
Zadina was the highest skill player with a safely projectible NHL path and the organization decided to go with Brady Tkachuk. I think most Sens fans, myself included, were pulling for Zadina. As for Tkachuk, he is still an excellent pick and will be a very valuable asset going forward.

Everyone should read the 4th period summary of the offer and negotiations around the purchase of Senators. There is huge money at play and it involves a monster development project.
Melnyk wants $700m. Too much. |

dude - tkackuk should have been an 8-12 pick, not #4.
he'll likely be a 15-20 goal, 50-60 point hard-working playing making winger at his peak. nice player, but not the upside others have in the draft.
formenton tops out at a high speed 4th liner. borderline nhler. - Tumbleweed
I mean McKenzie, ISS, and basically every expert had him at 4......but tumbleweeds expertise had him out of the top 10.....clearly ottawa made the wrong choice |

These are the guys trying to buy the Sens and take control of the LeBretton rebuild.
Devcore, Canderel and DLS Group
• Gatineau-based Devcore Group has emerged as one of the region's largest developers, with annual sales of $100 million. The company was founded by its president, Jean-Pierre Poulin.
• Montreal-based Canderel's local projects include NorthTech Campus in Kanata, Churchill Office Park on Carling Avenue and Export Development Canada's headquarters downtown. Jonathan Wener is Canderel's chairman and CEO.
• Power Corporation of Canada deputy chairman and co-CEO André Desmarais is the 'D' in DLS. He's also the son of the late Paul Desmarais, once the richest man in Quebec, whose estate was worth about $5.6 billion US in 2015. The Desmarais family has donated generously to the University of Ottawa, where a new 12-storey building was recently named after Paul Desmarais.
• Guy Laliberté is best known as the founder of Cirque du Soleil, but the former street performer is also extremely wealthy. According to Forbes, Laliberté was worth $2.1 billion US last year, and recently sold most of his shares in the hugely successful performance company. In 2007 Laliberté founded the ONE DROP Foundation, devoted to fighting poverty around the world by promoting sustainable access to water. In 2009 he became the first Canadian space tourist, booking a ticket to the International Space Station for a reported $35 million US.
• The 'S' in DLS — kept secret until Tuesday's presentation — is William J. Sinclair, co-founder and former president of Ottawa-based tech firm JDS Uniphase. Since selling his interests in the company more than a decade ago, he's led investment in numerous local startups and donated generously to The Ottawa Hospital, where the Sinclair Centre for Regenerative Medicine is named in his honour.
• Another partner in the DCDLS Group is the Mierins family: Arnie, Arnie Jr., Colleen and Lisa. The Ottawa family owns the Mierins Automotive Group of car dealerships, as well as Ogilvie Realty. The Mierins have also been involved in a long list of local philanthropic ventures.
• Ottawa architect Ritchard Brisbin helped present the DCDLS proposal Tuesday. His firm BBB Architects has been involved in a number of high-profile projects around town, including the Ottawa Airport expansion, the Shaw Centre, and Lansdowne Park

Fake news, Melnyk doesn't want to sell. This was debunked by Bill Daly today. Either buckle up for uncle Eugene or find a new team to cheer for. |

Yet, the guys he is not selling to are part of the financial group giving him finance.
Melnyk is asking $700m. Melnyk may not want to sell but he has to.
The new group is reported to be buying up Melnyk's debt on the Senators. I suspect they needed to clear out some of the old debt in order to enable the new $135m in senior financing.
When you hear Bill Daly officially release a statement about an offer on the Senators you know the negotiations are serious and advanced.
It will get done this summer. Alfredssen will come in to head up hockey operations.

To be fair, McKenzie's list is never in order of who he thinks are the best players, but instead what he hears the teams are leaning towards. |

yes?
listen, i don't think the tkackuk pick was terrible. he'll probably be a fine nhl player.
but it's easy to see that the consensus is zadina has more offensive upside. possibly other players too.
i think you take the offense at #4, not the intangibles. so i'm happy your pick. |

Just having fun with you...
Question for you, which move was better?
Dorion moves down four spots from 22 to 26 and gets the additional 48th overall pick.
Dubas moves down four spots from 25 to 29 and gets the additional 76th overall pick. |

The Citizen is now printing the Daly denial on the offer to buy the Sens.
Melnyk will provide a statement later today.
I think you want to listen to who are the financial interests providing the new senior loans and does he have guarantors signing on. I think it is entirely possible that Melnyk stays on as nominal owner but effective control passes over to those groups who are wanting to charge ahead with LeBretton development. |

You are passing judgement on the draft picks selected, not the draft pick swap which was the question.

Let's put a Detroit twist on this since you think the Senators are so bad at drafting...
Who did better in 2017 draft?
Detroit
2017 1 9 Michael Rasmussen
2017 2 38 Gustav Lindstrom
2017 3 71 Kasper Kotkansalo
2017 3 79 Lane Zablocki
2017 3 83 Zach Gallant
2017 4 100 Malte Setkov
Ottawa
1 28 Shane Bowers
2 47 (from Calgary) Alex Formenton
4 121 Drake Batherson
I know that Coga loves Shane Bowers!!!
By the way, why did Detroit pick so low last year? Did they do that poorly? |

People arguing about draft picks in the year that they happen is completely moronic. Everybody taken in this draft has the potential to be the best player in the draft.
I remember being upset when Ottawa traded down for some kid named Karlsson who was projected as a 2nd rounder in most rankings.
Give it a rest. At least for 4-5 years until we can properly assess. |
