He is right, re: the entertainment aspect of things.
Hockey culture can be pretty stultifying and parochial. - johndewar
Yup and it heavily applied to the PK Subban trade imo. But he’s right when comparing the NHL to say the NBA, or even the NFL. |

Haven't read the article, but I would guess it can be summed up as follows:
"It's cold. Like, it's REALLY REALLY cold. All of the time. And there are wolves all over the place. And you car will never start the first 20 times you try. It's a desolate tundra wasteland. And it's really (frank)ing cold all day every day."
Edit: "And on the days when the yetis stalk into town, you have to cower in doors until they've consumed enough man flesh to be satisfied." - jmatchett383
😂 Nicely done.

Don’t want Stastny.
He played with Laine and Ehlers for most of his time in Winnipeg.
He’s lost a step already, and those two helped mask it.
Risk of LeCavalier version two. Club needs to get faster, not go the other way. - flyer_nutter
Question... Do you think Stastny is better than Filppula? (That's who he would be replacing). |

Even Flip's wife would agree Stastny is much better, but it's fair to not want to give Stastny five years like Vinny got. |

In terms of hockey skills in a vacuum, yes, Stastny is better.
In terms of salary/cap hit and length they would demand, Filppula is much more preferable.
I'm not advocating for either, especially not Filppula. It's just not as black-and-white as you made it sound. |

The largest one is Hart. Kid is telling people he wants to be in the NHL this season. |

He said the same thing last year, and I'm glad. He comes off to me as a guy who wants the challenge, not as some arrogant, entitled kid. I like it. |

They all may want to be there but most of them hear they aren't making the team this year and accept it. Hart isn't accepting that Elliott, Neuvirth, Lyon and Stolarz are ahead of him. He's totally ready to fight those guys. |

As for ability... Stastny is better.
We don't know the back story, whether it was Filppula, Hextall or mutual decision to part ways. Whether this was before or after targeting Stastny.
Hextall is trying to #1 improve the team and #2 without causing too much issues with the cap (including if the player sucks in the future and we're still playing him). Stastny fits the bill for #1.
If Hextall tried to resign Filp? and it was a no go. Then, you really can't compare a Filp deal versus a Stastny deal... If Filp is gone, Hextall has to fill the spot. Stastny might be the best option out there... Besides, the Stastny deal is not on the table yet, so you can't determine the #2 financials... |

Not new... Actually. very old. I read the site daily, but hadn't posted in a while (a year? maybe 2?). I lost my id and password... I didn't have the energy to look it up. |

Don’t comment as much as read on this forum, but I have to say, every time I hear Laughton as 3c, I want to vomit. Guy just hasn’t shown much at all so far. I keep thinking he might be a late bloomer, but it keeps getting later. Find or trade for a better 3c.....please!
