As for ability... Stastny is better.
We don't know the back story, whether it was Filppula, Hextall or mutual decision to part ways. Whether this was before or after targeting Stastny.
Hextall is trying to #1 improve the team and #2 without causing too much issues with the cap (including if the player sucks in the future and we're still playing him). Stastny fits the bill for #1.
If Hextall tried to resign Filp? and it was a no go. Then, you really can't compare a Filp deal versus a Stastny deal... If Filp is gone, Hextall has to fill the spot. Stastny might be the best option out there... Besides, the Stastny deal is not on the table yet, so you can't determine the #2 financials... - leon neon
I'm assuming that the Filppula departure was mostly mutual, probably more so on the Flyers' part based of Hexy's proclamation that bringing him back is not off the table.
And yes, I can't say for sure the contract demands on each player, but I'm just basing it off of their age and history to date with respect to the other UFA's out there. |

I don’t think Stastny will sign here even though I’d like to see it. Winnipeg still seems like the most likely destination. - Sinisalo4vr
great, then we can trade for who they cant sign |

Don’t comment as much as read on this forum, but I have to say, every time I hear Laughton as 3c, I want to vomit. Guy just hasn’t shown much at all so far. I keep thinking he might be a late bloomer, but it keeps getting later. Find or trade for a better 3c.....please! - Hokeeguy9
I'm waiting for Pannaccio's annual, "This is Laughton's make or break year," article. |

I agree... Hextall probably tried, the demand was too great. And, he thinks he can bring in Stastny, at an equal rate.
Hextall might be in a pickle with the UFA. A lot are demanding large numbers, long terms, the UFA get to pick where they go. Besides the money, most UFA want a shot at the cup. I don't think many UFA are picking the Flyers to be in the race for the cup next year (maybe in a few years). This probably bumps them off most lists, unless the guy is young enough to partake in the final years of the contract. |

I feel like Laughton was one of our best players in the series against Pittsburgh. Sometimes a thing like that helps a player to get confidence to take the next step.
I wouldn't bank on him being the 3C, but neither would I dismiss him out of hand. He may step up and take the job in camp.

Ek, posted Flyers and Bozak... Stastney deal fell-through... Continue same conversation with Filppula compare to Bozak.

Off topic, and sorry as it is bit of a rookie question...but...
When an AHL player signs an extension like Morin did for 700K a year, does he actually get paid that or does he make a salary based on his AHL contract if he ends up playing in the minors? What happens if he is not in the league yet and is on an intial contract and not even in North America...
Sorry for the question, just could not find a straight answer online.. |

Pro Hockey Rumors has an article today which lists the top 50 UFA’s with predictions on where they will sign and for how much. None are predicted to be signed by the Flyers. |

It depends.
If a player signs a one-way deal, he gets paid the same amount no matters if he plays in the NHL or AHL.
If the player signs a two-way deal, he makes much more (like 10x) in the NHL as opposed to the AHL. |

It is a 1 way deal so he gets paid full NHL salary regardless of whether he is in the NHL or AHL. He is subject to waivers though, so he most likely stays in the NHL (outside of 2 week conditioning stint) |

Thanks, and thanks YuenglingJagr as well.
Is there a site that lists players that are on a 2 way contract? I normally look at CapFriendly, but they Flyers don't have any 2 way contracts listed (unless they don't have any at this time...) |

He's shown he can be good possession center even with less than stellar wings, and that he can get 20 points with extremely limited ice time, and that he can be an effective PKer with the speed to disrupt the opposition's powerplay. He also probably has the best wrist shot on the team. |

If you go to CapFriendly and click on the player, look at the AHL salary vs. NHL salary. If they are different, then he is on a 2-way deal. If they are the same, it is a 1-way deal.
Morin's new contract shows a $0 AHL salary, which may be because he's injured, or CapFriendly just doesn't have all of the details. |
