I agree... Hextall probably tried, the demand was too great. And, he thinks he can bring in Stastny, at an equal rate.

Hextall might be in a pickle with the UFA. A lot are demanding large numbers, long terms, the UFA get to pick where they go. Besides the money, most UFA want a shot at the cup. I don't think many UFA are picking the Flyers to be in the race for the cup next year (maybe in a few years). This probably bumps them off most lists, unless the guy is young enough to partake in the final years of the contract.

Its basically what UFA has become. Bunch of turds really.

I dont like the idea of chasing the prettiest one and having to overpay. Fourth liners and depth d-men, everything else is generally something that ends up being a bad deal. Teams just dont generally let good players go away for nothing.

Yeah, FA basically blows now. You overpay for depth because you don't draft and develop well. There's one Tavares to after like once every 4 years.

The easiest decision in the world was to fire the guy running this dumpster fire of a PK. They couldn't get that right. Can't do it because he blocked a shot with his face years ago.

Why would you expect anything in FA come Sunday from a regime that gave Dale Weise a 4 year contract? My prediction is no difference maker is added to the roster, and the cavalcade of spin doctors say, well this isn't the time to add in FA since they aren't Cup contenders....

I know a lot of people think they are cup contenders in 2019-2020... Who is the goaltender then?

Without a generational player, it takes a long ass time to rebuild. It sucks, but is what it is imo. Hopefully Carter Hart has that in him.

The coaching you know where I stand. Hak is a neanderthal when it comes to modern hockey, and Lappy should be fondling Joe's in back alleys for dollar bills.

The talent is coming, but its a long and painful road. I would explore a Simmonds trade.

It does blow. I also don't really agree with the notion of chasing all these depth guys. They really dont have any kids in the AHL that can bring some speed/intensity to that kind of line?

I just cant handle any more dead weight. Umberger, Vinny, Lehtera, and now Weise. Just no god. No. For all the talk that 4th liners dont win/lose games for the club - then give the chance to a damn kid and let them run with it.

Hart is going to take a while to come along even once he gets here though. When is the last time a goalie this young came into the league balls on fire?

I too would move Simmonds. I just don't see him holding upthe way people want him to 3-4 years from now.

Nope. Im setting my expectations high. He is it. He's going to come in and be elite. Why the (frank) not. Its time. Don't ruin this for me.

I think Simmonds will hold up. He doesnt really play that much of a physical game. He's a great net front guy but when was the last time you felt he was a consistent intimidating presence on the ice - its not his game. He's kind of a hybrid power forward, but I just dont like the idea of his next deal with his limited puck skill. I like him, but I'm not a fanboy of his.

I dont know. Frost seems to have potential to be a top 6 guy or a solid guy to add to the top 9? His speed is going to have me falling in love quickly.

You've got a bunch of decent ditch digger prospects with size, but guys like Farabee, Frost and O'Brien are hopefully going to become those play drivers. They are heading the right way overall. This club lacked actual talent, and guys who can actually make plays with the puck more than anything else.

It's coming.

That’s how I feel. I get the intangibles, but 2 or 3 years from now when this team is contending, no one on the squad will be thinking about Wayne Simmonds.

I don't want to say that they're not good or can't become very good but I don't think you can describe them as elite at this point.

This a statement that is not grounded in any facts whatsoever. Hakstol's systems and style of play is as modern as any other coach in the NHL.

Kids have been given a chance for the 4th line. Laughton and Leier. Lyubimov the season before. Those kids have to actually run with it when given a chance.

Interesting benchmark. I would pay more for Doughty than Tavares personally.

I know it's Doughty s 2nd contract, but really like to see Provy get extended around 7-7.5 million/yr for 8 yrs.

Wow. Doughty is worth it in my mind. OEL’s deal is looking damn good now. What a time to be a ufa. Every deal signed is going to be like nails on a chalkboard, whoever we sign too...
