I know it's Doughty s 2nd contract, but really like to see Provy get extended around 7-7.5 million/yr for 8 yrs.

I think that’s certainly doable

That’s how I feel. I get the intangibles, but 2 or 3 years from now when this team is contending, no one on the squad will be thinking about Wayne Simmonds.

I am just not so quick to dismiss Simmonds although I’m leery on the next contract. If he’s asking for 6 x 6...I’m tempted to counter with 8 years at 4.5. Front load it in actual money. I am not concerned with the durability issues. His net front offense is tough to replace, tough to find. With that deal he can just be a staple in the bottom 6 from here on out. That is a negligible cap hit. Would he agree to it? Maybe not

Might cost 8m/yr now. I would still be okay with that though.

Nah. OEL is 8.25 on his next one. Doughty has led them to 2 cups. The hardware matters ask the Chicago boys

With the cap going up it might be of little consequence near the end of the deal. The 8 years is tough to swallow on the surface though.

8 years for Simmonds? Sorry, that is just absurd no matter what the cap hit is. His net front presence isn't going to mean squat when he eventually loses a step and gets his line hemmed in it's own zone. I'm having visions of Lecavalier just thinking about it. Ugh.

This a statement that is not grounded in any facts whatsoever. Hakstol's systems and style of play is as modern as any other coach in the NHL.

I believe what he's communicating to you FN is that Lappy could pull at least fivers for the fondling. #factsonly

Hextall also noted the excitement of the players and prospects to meet Straschnitzki, particularly Flyers defenseman Andrew MacDonald, who in an earlier visit offered much more.

"Mac was dialed right in," said Hextall. "I don't know if I should tell this story or not, but the first time we went over to the hospital Tom [Ryan's father] told us that A-Mac offered him his house and his car."

I think Simmonds will always have the grit a lot of our other players do not have. I think he would do well as a third line player should he ever become one.
