If you have it on good authority that Pellegrini is working on trading Tavares today, this makes things 100 times more interesting, but from everything I have read, only the Islanders can offer him an 8 year deal, and that expires at midnight.

I shall keeping hitting refresh until we know the outcome.

American. But nobody said it’s done. Just that starting to look like going that way.

I get the feeling the League, Canadian Sports media and Canadian owners want him in Toronto. Also got a feeling Isles will not come away empty, like they trade one of the high salary vets to get something in return.

JT feels he helped save Isles and added value to the team and now he adds value to Canadian franchises. Just hurts to possibly see the JT era end but the Isles have a top mgt and coach in place to develop their future.

The eighth year does not necessarily bring more money but spreads it over an extra year for lower aav and taxes so advantages club and player and agent.

No, You’re presuming a fixed dollar amount when comparing. Another year almost definitely means a higher total and thus more money.

If it's a draft pick, like a 2nd or 3rd, plus a B-level prospect, you offer it if you're the acquiring team and you take it if you're Uncle Lou

Too many people overvalue draft picks, in a vacuum. The true value, especially after the first 10 picks or so, is if you have many of them so you have more chances to hit

The "why you do it" is so the player signs with you, if he wants the eighth year. If you want the player and he tells you that he won't come unless you try to get the eighth year, then you try to get the eighth year

This whole process, to me, shows what kind of character JT has. The guy has no balls. Make a friggin decision and move on dude. You're making millions whatever you decide. You spent the whole year saying you wanted to be here, and now you're not so sure anymore. Listen, take you're shat and move on to Toronto and while you're at it, bring Garf and Weight with you!
