A year and a half ago I was telling people we should trade this guy and get a boatload back for him. That he wasn’t going to resign. Everyone thought I was crazy but it would have been the right move. We’d be set for the next 10 years and now we’re gonna lose him for nothing. And we still have Boychuk, Ladd, Clutterpuss (who’s only here because he’s JTs BFF) and Hickey. Who as a whole make $18 mill a year and contribute almost nothing

Yes he did, but those were all pre salary cap, pre free agency. He has no clue how to deal with free agency, he keeps thinking he can win with a shoe string budget and let his best players walk out the door and simply replace them with cheaper washed up players. Do you think its a coincidence that toronto poop canned him, only to have tavaras sign with the leafs. Good news is barzal scored more against the rangers than Tavares did and is still better than anyone on that team. Rangers had their opportunities and are now in a full on rebuild too

Ryan Suter did the same to the Preds. Led the team on all of his Walk year, didn’t feel like you could trade him because he kept saying he didn’t want to go anywhere and how can you trade someone who wants to comeback? Long run Josi was better and Preds were better off Salary cap and team wise with him gone. Hope the same happens to you with Tavares. Lesson is if a player takes it all the way to Free Agency he is gone. Stamkos was the exception that proves the rule.

Suter is still hated here because he lied to the fans. Suspect Tavares will be hated too.
