Tavares is the only bumhole that could take this long to choose between poopty long island and California.

1. Trade for Justin Faulk; alternatively sign de Hann (not a righty but best all around D on the market IMO. Option C is somebody cheap like Dylan deMelo (righty and cheaper than Pateryn).

2. Sign Letestu/Vermette. No thanks on overpaying Riley Nash or Tyler Bozak. Between Patrick, Coots, Laughton and, if necessary, Giroux, as well as guys like Vecchione, Vorobyov, Rubtsov and Frost not being far off, we don't need to sign a big FA center. The Statsny rumors were a nice lol. We need a bottom 6 center on a 1-2 year deal. Nothing more.

3. Possibly sign a winger like Rieder or Duclair (adding much-needed speed, but not imperative. Could just give more ice to Lindblom/Leir/NAK/etc).

4. Inquire about a possible Neuvirth trade. Probably the last position I upgrade if I can, but I'd give up an asset to convince Ottawa to swap Neuvirth for Craig Anderson. Neuvirth is just way to injury prone for a 1A/1B situation. Don't even want to think or scenario where Carter Hart is pressured/rushed into action.

I liked the pens trying to trade for Faulk or de Haan before they messed themselves with this Johnson nonsense. I wonder what a good package from the flyers for Faulk would be. I think letestu wouldn’t be a terrible cheap signing for your bottom six either. He’d also inject some much needed life into that second powerplay unit. He wouldn’t be an even strength stud on the third line, but that’s just not gonna be in the cards for the Flyers with stacking the top six like they do.

I really don’t think the asking package for ROR is that unreasonable, unless the young forward is Patrick. RORs deal is maybe a million too much to be a good one, but if he was a UFA tomorrow he’d get as much or more. Any return that isn’t a first rounder, upper crust prospect and an additional piece would be a disappointing return for a guy they don’t necessarily have to move.

I think Letestu's legs are about shot, personally -- I saw him enough last year to form that opinion

[quote=BiggE]Thoughts on the Flyers re free agency:

I really don't see a lot of big moves, nor do I see them adding a center like Bozak or Nash. Here is what I think they will do:

sign a good 4th line center who can kill penalties, my guess is Nick Shore. I think Vecchione and perhaps Laughton, if he's not playing wing, battle it out for the 3C spot and they can move Shore into that spot when trying to lock down a lead late in the game.

I think they go after one veteran scoring winger who they can get on a 2 year deal. Could be Vanek (age 34), or perhaps Rick Nash (age 34). Either would be a short term upgrade on LW and they may even be able to significantly overspend, as they are way below the cap, and get one of them on a high price one year deal which would be even better.

Finally, I think with Morin injured and out for at least half the upcoming season, they will sign a veteran journeyman D who can hold down the 7th spot if Myers is sent to LHV to start the season.

I also think, if all 5 pro goalies are healthy, either Lyon or Stolarz could be moved just prior to the start, or very early in the season.

Lyon has been a surprise. Why not try and trade him. Stolie was the better prospect.

All indications are that James van Riemsdyk is going back to the Philadelphia #Flyers on a deal to be announced Sunday. #TSN

That is one of only two moves that I wanted Hextall to even consider during this period

Watched the Leafs a ton last year. Gotta give JVR sheltered zone starts -- his defense just isn't that great -- but the skating stride is fine for someone his size, and his hands are just ridiculous around the net

Still not physical, but the most important thing is this: You can win with him. Use him properly, don't expect him to win a Selke, and the goals are coming

As is always the case, i’ll Believe it when it happens. I’m not averse to him coming back, I just hope the term and money are reasonable.

We know his flaws better than most. I’m ok with the idea but have to see the contract. He just turned 29, I’m fearful of some crazy 6-7 year deal, when talking about rebuilding - is he the kind of guy you basically want as a core player?

I just wanted Grabner... Sigh.

The asking price for fairly slow ROR is insane. I hope Hexy hung up on Beefalo, and then called him a doctor for a methadone treatment.

Your pens can pay that, no thanks!

If I had to guess -- and I'm always wrong -- something like 6x6.75

Might suck at age 33/34, but what are you gonna do? Gotta at least look like you can win the whole damn thing in the next 2-4 years, to me

Just jokes man, no hard feelings.

San Jose might get him too. They are going to be a threat along with Nash and Winnipeg.
