It's not in 2018 - the economy is booming right now. It would have been a few years back. Guys like Tavares get opportunities that common folk like us don't, which you have to factor in.

I'll admit I giggled a little when I read the terms, it's just so clever to get it all up front. No escrow on the majority of his salary, the $925K he's getting paid is pocket money. Hell, the exchange on that can give him a high flying lifestyle with access to whatever he wants. When Leafs brass presented him with the offer he was probably going 'Wait a minute, we can do that?'

I work in the investment field and a conservative investment will get you between 4-6% on average. Relatively high risk is probably 8-12%. You can make alot more than that but it would have to be high risk. As much as your investment can go up it can go down. So if you can make 20% you can lose 20% and that's not low risk.

Not looking to argue but investing is all risk reward. You can't get a high return like 20% without having a high risk. Also the economy is not booming. Markets this year have not been doing well at all. If you're invested in somethibg like mutual funds you're lucky if you're not down.
