The Leafs could be offering 5 million per year for 3 or 4 years, the offer sheet may guarantee 7 million per year for 7 years. The whole point of the offer sheet is to over pay for a player so usually if a player is signing it, it's because they were offered huge money that their current team isn't offering.

All that being said, the odds of a team offering him that much money this early in his career are pretty low. But after this up coming season, that could change, depending on his production.

I'm not a Willie fan so if i where GM would have started shopping him for D 10min after JT signed..IMO leafs should be trying to trade or bridge him and get Matthews/Marner locked up long term..

Brown wouldn't be okay with it and neither would I at his price tag.

Josh Jooris is an underwhelming signing, I think he's for the Marlies because they can do better than that, even for a 4th liner.

Ward got too expensive eh. I'm sure sparks will be just fine as our backup though.

Sparks doesn't impress me. I'd be willing to give him a chance but if they want a guarantee that the back-up will be capable of playing 25-30 games effectively, Sparks is a risk, not a guarantee. I'd try to get Lehner.

That O'Reilly trade was yuuuge.. They got a 1st, a 2nd and Tage Thompson.

I'm a fan of Nylander but I'm a bigger fan of getting a top pairing RHD and Marner is clearly the untouchable one of the two.

Nylander could be a lot more valuable after another year or two of puffing his stats up with Matthews and/or Tavares.

Sparks reminds me of Reimer. Good size but bad positioning. Relies on athleticism and gets himself out of position alot.

With the value of a potato chip.

If they tried to trade McElhinney (which they should after his career year), they'd be lucky to get a mid round draft pick for him. A 3rd would be a steal.

I'd be okay with them trading sparks if they can get something decent and running with Picard as backup.

Maybe - do you think it would be a good use of $5 million to get a guy that might get 10 miniutes a night? Maybe a useful d-man that will give us 15-18 minutes a night would be the course. After all.

Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Marleau-Tavares-Marner
Johnsson-Kadri-Kapanen
Homer Simpson-Gumby-Brown

Do we need to spend any more $ on forwards?

- winsix

WE GOT TAVARES!!! (That wasn't to your post but just because I haven't posted about JT yet.)

I like your line up except I don't think Kadri should be with two rookies.....and he played really well at the end of the year with Marner. So maybe:

Hyman, Matthews, Nylander
Marleau, JT, Kapanen
Johnsson, Kadri, Marner

OR

Hyman, Matthews, Nylander
Johnsson, JT, Marner
Marleau, Kadri, Kapanen

Yeah, I called him today and even he was still excited as all hell lol.

But it was also my massage therapist that got me really to believe it as she knows Shanny and has dealings with the Tavares family as well.

This will probably be the one and only time tho that I get something this juicy.

But it was JT that was holding it up..he really was struggling with leaving the Isles, but it was only ever going to be for the leafs.

Ship out McBackup. has some experience and value. Proven at the NHL level.

Then run with Sparks of Pickard as backup, other works with Kask down with the Marlies.

With the signing of Tavares, you need a guarantee as the back-up to keep Andersen fresh for the playoffs. I may have rolled the dice on Sparks but at this point, why bother? He's likely a back-up anyway. Get somebody proven who can play 25-30 games.

That 1st is pretty much a 2nd and the 2nd is pretty much a 3rd and Thompson cant skate for a fuk + the bad contracts that came back....

End of day O'Rielly wins that trade as he escaped Barffalo and Garfs constantly trying to lick his cock...

I wouldn't call them decent, especially compared to the UFAs out there. They can do better than Pickard.
