Name me a star player who left in his prime for less money to play for his home team? History was on my side. This poop almost never happens, especially with the Leafs. Niedermayer is the only one and he didn't go "home" and he had already won a few Cups so even he isn't a good comparable. It was a miracle and I'm happy it finally went our way.

So many options with JT up the middle.

The line combos dancing in my head like sugar plums...

I see Cody Franson out there. How bad would he be on a Luke Schenn deal?

Of course it doesn't happen often. Noone argued otherwise. What we said to you was that those reasons, such as a desire to play for his childhood team, might weigh in on his decision process. Most of us didn't think those reasons would be enough, which is why we didn't actually expect him to become a leaf, but we did expect they made him at least think about it.

You on the other hand, seemed to think that was preposterous and that he'd have to have the mentality of a ten year old to even think of playing for the leafs.

It's ok to admit you were wrong UG. In fact, it's a mark of character to be able to do so.

Was still kinda funny when you suggested he'd be acting like a 10 yr old if he signed here...
Anyway, water under the bridge. Tavares is a Leaf. Thats all that matters.

To show but a few yes. This one prince who is actually a friend of mine was saying how AM is gonna suck out if/when JT gets the "C" and good luck keeping Nylander and Marner.

Its a great problem to have aint it

Yeah. Cause he was. Leafs pj's and bed sheets worked in our favour.

It was and it still is. He gave up more money, playing for better teams, in nicer climates with more privacy. He's crazy. But I'm happy he is.

And this has happened how many times? Once? The vast majority of players in his situation did the complete opposite. It was a miracle finally went our way. Thank (frank).

Crazy people think that. Matthews pitched the idea to Tavares. I don't think he'd be mad with winning Cups.

Hey don't know if any of you guys heard yet, but Eklund broke the news that Boobsass managed to convince Tavares to come to Toronto!

Might actually prefer Schenn. At least he knows his limitations. Franson is a giant who wants to play like Gardiner.

No he didn't. The only team we know offered more is San Jose and they are not a better team.

Franson and Schenn shouldn't be anywhere near the NHL..

Franson on the PP -- that low hard shot that always got through -- while playing with Dermott in the 6 hole wouldn't be the worst thing we could do.

Went to the Cup Finals not long ago, Couture, Pavelski, Burns, Jones; they're not a bad team and they're pretty balanced. Gave up more money from the Islanders. Gave up better teams in Tampa Bay and Boston. Gave up money on the lower taxes too. All of that is still true. Most players don't do that but he's a crazy mother (frank)er and I'm glad he is.

Oh no, you're right! Him signing with the leafs was proof he's got the mentality of a crazy man-child! We've made a terrible mistake!!!

Seriously though, just man up and admit you were wrong man. I get it, you didn't want to get your hopes up, so you were an insufferable know it all to everyone else on here. It's ok to admit it.

Rather have a guy who just plays smart and plays defense. Shame Pateryn got signed really quick. He might have been pretty good to fill that role.
