Leafs got tavares

Pretty cool watching the press conference with JT, Dubas, and Shanny.

Sounds like this was a really hard decision for Tavares. He mentions he felt like his heart was in two places, the place where he grew up, and the place where he spent the last 9 years helping him to become the person he is.

Sounds like it eventually came down to the Islanders and Leafs, rather than Leafs and SJ, more because of sentimentality rather than money. He mentions pacing near his pool most of the day trying to make up his mind.

He also mentions a couple of times about it just being perfect timing, what with the Leafs having the space and the young team of good players they do, right when he hit free agency. He doesn't actually mention his last team not being a very attractive option due to performance and arena and such, but I get the sense that was the other part about the timing he was too diplomatic to say.

His twitter comment when he made the decision was also very heartfelt to the Isles fans. A guy on sportsnet (forget who) mentions it almost sounds like he's consoling them. You can tell it really tore him up leaving them, almost like he felt he was abandoning his responsibility or something, probably in part due to being captain.

Seems like this really was a hard choice for him. So glad he decided to come back home.
