@martybiron43
ROR was very productive on the power play. Somebody will collect those points in his place. At even strength he wasn’t getting it done enough for me. I liked him but I’m not going to regret this, the Sabres will be fine without him. - sbroads24
Marty's starting to sound like front office material |

He's on an AHL deal, which doesn't count towards the eligibility thing. He needs to sign an NHL deal before June 2020. - TheSabresTaco
OK, Thank You, I thought I saw him on CapFriendly a while back, must have been the AHL tryout contract. Thank you and all the others who replied, I thought I was losing my mind. |

So it's not a good trade because they didn't give us Robert Thomas.
Jesus. (frank). - TheSabresTaco
I'm sure the Blues had Thomas and Kyrou on their untouchable prospects list |

Good summary
That 1st is even years away from helping us,
if at all
If Thompson was a better prospect or young player, I’d be happy
But right now he just projects to be a decent guy for us - jdfitz77
No offense fitz, because again YOU WERE SMARTER THEN ME IN REGARDS TO VANEK SIGNING IN BUFFALO , but
I'm glad you do not like the trade, makes me feel more comfortable about the trade working out for the sabres. |

If we got one of 3 it might have saved the trade
now we have to put Thompson in the AHL next year to get his confidence up and to put him back at Center
So we'll see him in a year - gerbe75pts
They should've came away with one of Thomas or Kyrou. By all accounts from most Blues bloggers and reporters Thompson has good potential but fell out of favor in terms of Blues high end prospects with his play this year. He could end up being great but right now I'm not exactly super confident in that. |

No it's not a great trade because they got two 3rd line players who are on the wrong side of 30 one of which has never scored 20 goals before and the blues 4th best prospect. The 1st round pick will be nice if they use it to get Skinner, Zucker etc. otherwise it's just going to be in the 15-31 range. - bluengold12
The vets love a team full of 30+ year olds
Imagine when we're in the playoffs they will be 33
Go us |

Thompson isn't a bad player. Give the kid time to develop. We are going to have a young team with all the kids we have coming up. This isn't the world juniors. We need some sort of veteran presence. - Pegullaville
It's mind numbing to me that people don't realize the significance of veterans. The right veterans can lead a team far. |

Hi guys, I've been a reader for a while now and with this big trade that just went trough I tought it would be a good time to join the conversation and share my toughts
First off, I can't hide my disappointment of not getting one of Thomas, Kyrou, Kostkin or Parayko. I must admit I dont know much about Thompson but from what I've read he doesn't seem like a lock at all to be a top 6 player, which is what I would've like in the prospect included in the trade. That being said I still think that the deal is decent value for ROR, considering that is contract was risky to keep.
Also, I see a lot of you guys saying we should trade for Pacioretty. As a sabres fan who lives in Quebec, I saw a lot of MaxPacs and trust me trading for him would be a bad idea. I wouldn't even trade a 2nd round pick for him since I wouldn't be willing to give more than 4.5M/year for his extension which wouldn't get it done obviously.
Btw, english ain't my first language so sorry for the bad grammar - Pharaoh97
Welcome!

Now we're making him a center again so I'm kind of confused about this trade I thought he was going to develop into a power forward like the blues intended |

I give up defending him.
Not to mention the stat I posted earlier...he’s basically the opposite of Nylander - sbroads24
They're both 20, I'm willing to give them at least 2 more years before I poop can them.

You're right. No team in the history of the league has ever won a cup with a few 33 year old players.

Not sure where they'll play Berglund, but he'd instantly become our #1 or #2 LW.
Thompson is a big, skilled RW with a great shot....if you love Olofsson, you should love Thompson too. Very possible they see him as a guy who fits with Eichel, even if he's not ready day 1. - Lunaion
Ummm... then why doesn’t he score more? |

Marty is pretty unbiased. He laid into Jack during the season last year a few times.
He’s better than Peters that’s for sure. |

It's actually just pure, raw facts. We didn't get a good enough return for a jack of all trades center. I don't care how much he whined about sucking or was a sore loser. I'd be a sore loser too if I had to play on a pathetic loser franchise that doesn't realize you need to surround your centers with goal scoring wingers and keep them here... |
