Fan favorite, hard nosed play... I've heard this about countless other over paid bums. Bogosian, Ott, Gorges... I want raw talent and effort. Matt Calvert is a guy we should have been all over for example. Under 30 great 3rd line grinder who can reliably chip in goals, he's fast and excellent on the PK and we could've had him for free! That's the kind of all effort guy I can get behind.
Berglund was a minus player most of his career in St. Louis including a minus 12 the last two years. Hardly seems like a shut down center. Though I could be wrong. - bluengold12
It's hard to even read your posts. You're so negative for attention. You should apply for a GM position since you're so knowledgeable and your opinion is so well respected through out the NHL. |

Now we're making him a center again so I'm kind of confused about this trade I thought he was going to develop into a power forward like the blues intended - gerbe75pts
Who said we are making him a center direct quote from Botterrill:
GROW with our young Centermen...not be a center.

For all the people complaining we didn’t get Thomas, Kostin, or Koryau (whatever sp)....
It was said that Botts was extremely adamant about wanting Tage.... he has a plan. I’ll give him that credit. - JVince11
And the Blues may have said, prospects A, B and C are off the table. |

Murray had a plan too.. Trade a 1st for Lehner, get his long term 30 goal scoring LW and shut down defenceman give up another 1st and prospects? Sure! I believe in who I got. Now he's the laughing stock of the town.
I trust Botteril in general more than Murray but he better be right about Thompson. IMO he's the center piece of this trade for Botteril and the one who will mainly be judged on in terms of winner or loser in 3-4 years from now. |

How do we even know Thomas, kyrou even turn out to be half decent ? How many times have we went through the song and dance
With prospects. Foligno, Kassian, Hodgson, Luke Adam, all world junior studs, All flamed out. |

Ummm... then why doesn’t he score more? - jdfitz77
Can you not see that he's played in tough leagues at a young age and been productive?
If you believe the reports, he's a guy that JB targeted all along. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt here. It's not hard to see what he'd like about him.

I'm negative because I'm (frank)ing sick of losing and covering up the leaks with old gum! I don't believe O'Reilly was the problem and if you were going to trade him it should've been for a bit more. I'm not looking for attention I'm pissed off and I'm backing it up with facts. |

I always remember berglund being a 2 way guy. Perhaps he's not as good defensively as I thought but it's not like ROR was any good defensively either. |

Knowing that Botts wanted Thompson makes me more confident in him than thinking that he juste settled for him after he saw he couldn't get one of the top 3 prospects. If Tage becomes a top 6 winger I believe this trade is a win for us, if not well that 1st round pick better be a stud. |

Sobotka at 3.5 million AAV for two years then we resign Middlestadt
Hutton signs 3+ million for 3 years then we resign Dahlin
Patrik Berglund at 3.85 for 4 years then we resign 2019 pick
a prospect in Thompson and now own 3 1st round picks

Read the archives from last year. A lot of people, even Gerbe, had a hard on for Thompson.
He's a good prospect that needs some more time. God for (frank)ing bid. |

Kris Baker on Tage Thompson:
Big and skilled, historically strong on PP. Excellent shot. I see him playing RW with the Sabres org.
Botts we're going to use him as a center
Ok then |

This might be a genius move. We now have plenty of scraps to not protect in the next expansion draft. - Hatboro_Swords
Good point
I'm sure that's part of this trade.
You need a certain amount of nhl players to protect.

The book on O'Reilly is that he's a two way centerman. Maybe that's slightly overrated but when you have guys like Bogosian and Gorges turning the puck over in their own zone and forwards not passing crisply to get out of the zone anyone defensive game can look bad. |
