I don’t think they are bottom 10 either but I don’t see them as top 10, high teen pick is where I see it.
- BigStew

Think we roughly agree. I think they are a fringe playoff team. If they make it, just about anything can happen. A lot rides on Allen. I've always kind of liked him. In a funny way, Chad Johnson's play might determine where the finish.

Can you not see that he's played in tough leagues at a young age and been productive?

If you believe the reports, he's a guy that JB targeted all along. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt here. It's not hard to see what he'd like about him.

Fair enough
Botts obviously knows more about hockey than me
And it’s not like I’ve even seen Thompson play, so hopefully when i do my mind will be changed
My opinion for NOW,
is that we traded for a guy who looks to me like he’s a 3rd liner

Obviously i hope I’m wrong

One thing though:
When u say Botts targeted him all along,
that makes it sound good
But StL was supposedly willing to give this guy up and not others
And they’ve had a lot more access to the kid than Botts

We’ll just have to wait & see how it all works out
Like i said before:
If Thompson (& the picks) ends up being good for us,
then good trade
If he tops out as a 3rd liner,
then terrible trade

This is where I really don't get people. Thompson's played half a season in the NHL and is a third liner today. He has a great NHL shot, and his highlights show it. Olofsson has a great shot, but has never played a game in North America. Yet people slot Olofsson onto the top line and dismiss Thompson. Objectively, Thompson is the far better prospect.

Like I said, above, if Thompson turns into a legit top 6, Sabres win this deal. I think it's that simple. Coming into today, I wanted at least Kostin, but if Bots targeted Thompson, I'm fine with it. There's plenty to like about him.

Bots specifically called out that he was looking to improve their even strength scoring. He did that with dealing ROR and bringing in Sheary, Berg, and Sobotka.

Now go get Stone.

- JVince11

I’d offer the SJ 1st and the StL 1st

Or I’d get creative:
Offer 1 of the 1sts, and take Bobby Ryan’s contract off their hands

He’s signed at a 7.25mil Cap hit, for 4yrs
BUT
We’d really only have him for 2 yrs,
then the lockout happens & we can most likely buy him out with no penalty to the Cap

Just listened to the Botterill conference call

“If it went past midnight today, the asking price certainly would’ve been a lot different”
-Botts (7:40mark)

Ok... so i know it’s not my 7.5mil...
but why the f#ck didn’t we pay it so that we could get a better return?!

There were rumblings that the price was already too high, there’s a chance after we paid that bonus nobody would have been willing to pay it.

If berglund and sobodka are third liners, but still each scored more even strength goals than RoR, what does that make RoR

Hey Get us, here is Botts quote.
Please highlight exactly where he says Thompson is going to be converted to a Center...

"We're looking for more scoring from our wings," Botterill said. "What we see with Tage is a kid with a great shot, great size, has a really good reach on the ice, played NHL games as a 20-year-old, had an opportunity to win a World Junior gold medal (with Team USA in 2017). We think he's a player that's going to be able to step in our lineup and grow with our young centermen."

With our centerline, NOT as our centerman.

Dumb, dumb and dumber all in one.

Are you talking to Gerbe? Because he admitted late last night that he misread the quote.

I don't know how you guys do it. I usually lurk most of the year, until trade deadline, draft, free agency time, but you guys who are here, day in and day out, dealing with this whiny crap? Wtf.

I’m with you here. I used to come on here a lot more back in the day. It’s brutal. Too bad you cannot unfollow people on here.

Just how much more were we expecting to get for O'reilly, a slow 2C with an attitude problem? He'll be 3C material within 2 more seasons, and with the last few seasons of that contract, St. Louis will be cursing ever having made the trade.

They are both 3rd liners which is a HUGE upgrade to our 3rd line.

Ah, nothing like coming into the office this morning and listening to a bunch of morons that know nothing about hockey give their 2 cents on the Sabres weekend. Kind of like here, but worse.

2 thoughts...

1) the expectations were very high, too high obviously. I got caught up into it thinking Thomas (maybe) and Parayko.

2) There is value in getting rid of a locker room cancer. IF ROR was truly that, then dealing him actually becomes the biggest benefit of the deal.

My feeling on the trade is a combination of the two...am disappointed they didn't get a better prospect...but really wanted Parayko, and hopeful that moving ROR has the positjjve impact of addition by subtraction.

I wish the 1st round pick from SJS and Blues didn't have conditions on them so they were tradeable now...as bait to land a 1LW.
Not sure who remaining has enough trade value to acquire that.

Team should be much moire enjoyable to watchnext season.
I'm excited to see how it all comes together

Yep that is the beauty of message boards. That would be similar to Buffalo moving Middlestat and Ristolainen for a 2nd line center and of course Sabres fans would shoot that down but O'Reilly for those two sounds good lol.

Blame Tim Muray for this. We wanted a similar return to what he gave up, only issue is no GM is that crazy to do it.

Every insider said the price was massively high even the Montréal Canadiens GM so what just happened

No top prospect got the first great but nothing else to help us win
