Agreed. Its a win win trade for both sides.
Im happy to be out from under the ROR contract, personally as you all knew my feelings about him.
His on ice play will be missed, sure, but I think this team is better in the long run. |

2 thoughts...
1) the expectations were very high, too high obviously. I got caught up into it thinking Thomas (maybe) and Parayko.
2) There is value in getting rid of a locker room cancer. IF ROR was truly that, then dealing him actually becomes the biggest benefit of the deal.
My feeling on the trade is a combination of the two...am disappointed they didn't get a better prospect...but really wanted Parayko, and hopeful that moving ROR has the positjjve impact of addition by subtraction.
I wish the 1st round pick from SJS and Blues didn't have conditions on them so they were tradeable now...as bait to land a 1LW.
Not sure who remaining has enough trade value to acquire that.
Team should be much moire enjoyable to watchnext season.
I'm excited to see how it all comes together - IonSabres
I don't think the trade made us better for this year, and it probably won't help us for 3 years. Hard to believe he didn't have better offers

Every insider said the price was massively high even the Montréal Canadiens GM so what just happened
No top prospect got the first great but nothing else to help us win - gerbe75pts
Why do you not realize that our 3rd line was upgraded out of the embarrassment zone? |

Botterill got more than that.

Thank God for the 3rd liners it's not like you can sign those people in UFA for the same damn price
The goal was players that could help us in the future on the top 2
How people can spin this as a good trade blows my mind |

Adding our internal talent to a rounded out bottom 6 doesn't make this team overall better?
I'll bet 10,000 PassionBucks this team is better and way more balanced.
Let's also remember we have 9 NHL defensemen on the roster. (inc. unsigned Dahlin). 8 if you don't count Guhle, but how the (frank) isn't he better than Bowls? |

To add, the asking price hasn't even wavered. Montreal wouldn't pay the price because they know how bad they are. Carolina, same. You can't ask a bottom dweller to pay their 1st. |

Why? As with the Kane trade it wouldn't be too hard to take the best offer. Clearly nobody was giving up top prospects. We forget that O'Reilly has his own warts.

Blame Tim Muray for this. We wanted a similar return to what he gave up, only issue is no GM is that crazy to do it. - ImThatGuy
We got a similar return.
Gregorenko = Sabodka
2nd rounder = 2nd rounder
Compher at that time = Thompson now
Zadorov at that time (16th pick) = 1st round pick (should be 15-25)
And we still ended up with Berglund. |

Eh, they have to hit on the late first, and hope Berglund's production continues into his mid 30s. Let's be honest, St. Louis got the best player in the trade without giving up any players of value - Thomas, Kyrou, Parayko, Fabbri, Schwartz. We got a couple spare part forwards (I do like Berglund), a b prospect and picks. Looks pretty good for St. Louis at this point. |

Cause it is a good trade.
just because your expectations of Parayko and Thomas were unrealistic doesn't mean it's a bad trade.
The Sabres have 3 first round picks next year. and about 35MM in cap space.
It's also only July 2nd, Botterill has time to work. |

ROR was the 161st ranked forward in 5on5 goals the last two years, beglund had more 5on5 goals than o'reilly over the last 2 years. ror took a lot of d zone draws but is severely overrated. We cam in 31st with ror, we can do whtat, or better, without him. the prospect is only 20 and played half the season in the nhl, so he has more upside than we're giving him. Give Eichel the C today and move on with the Dahlin eichel era. |

Of course they got the best player, we got 5 assets in return. They get an aging, slow, overpaid attitude problem that can win the most faceoffs in the universe. And we get our asking price of a 1st, 2nd, prospect and 2 vets that can round out the 3rd line. We needed Berglund back in that deal. I'd be willing to bet Botts deliberately wanted him. Sobotka was more of the throw in to balance the salary. Berg can do everything ROR can except score on the PP. And hey, he's half the price. |
