We got a similar return.
Gregorenko = Sabodka
2nd rounder = 2nd rounder
Compher at that time = Thompson now
Zadorov at that time (16th pick) = 1st round pick (should be 15-25)
And we still ended up with Berglund. - sskkoo1
Multiple industry guys said expect a return similar to Kesler which I think we did a bit better. But the experts here were convinced that the Blues top 3 D-man, top forward prospect and a 1st round pick were coming back, just comical. |

I think the piece you are leaving out of there is that we took back a lot of celery. Also, I would have taken Zads and Compher over Thompson and pick. I don't love the trade but I get it. |

No, if I were a Blues fan I'd be concerned about the cancer my team just traded for. O'reilly has just forced his way out of 2 clubs because they wouldn't put his slow ass on a pedestal. What do you think he'll do in St. Louis? Good luck to them with his diminishing returns. |

ROR was the 161st ranked forward in 5on5 goals the last two years, beglund had more 5on5 goals than o'reilly over the last 2 years. ror took a lot of d zone draws but is severely overrated. We cam in 31st with ror, we can do whtat, or better, without him. the prospect is only 20 and played half the season in the nhl, so he has more upside than we're giving him. Give Eichel the C today and move on with the Dahlin eichel era. - turbo044

Right. Zads and Compher look good now, but did they then? Zads had warts and an attitude problem. Compher was a very raw prospect. Colorado has been developing these players for 3 years now, let's see where Thompson is in 3 years. |

I thought that was your boy Nylander?
how is he doing not even playing with the prospects?
Hopefully he is moved for Skinner. - ImThatGuy
We didn’t trade for nylander we drafted him and we can develop him for free
The goal was a top prospects he couldn’t get 1 or 2 or 3 he got the 5
Like come on if he got the 3rd prospect I wouldn’t be this mad |

For the minutes ROR played he didn't produce enough specifically at 5on5, in 224 games over the last 3 years playing 21 minutes a night he scored 32 even strength goals.
In the last two years over a period of 139 games with basically the same dzone starts and playing 16 minutes a night Berglund has scored 32 even strength goals.
I don't love the trade. I wish it included Kyrou or Parayko but ROR is absolutely not a first line center, hopefully Thompson can develop into a middle 6 winger, we'll see what happens with the first round pick |

I have not been able to read all these pages, but I think I am happy at this trade. I wanted ROR gone so that Eichel can really excel and then we don't have a grumpy $7.5 player on our hands.
As pointed out, his 5v5 stats are really bad. He is expected to shut down other teams top lines, I want our top players to dictate play and not "shut down" other teams top lines. ROR's line was not going to ever dictate play.
There are two things I am looking at here that I think are good:
ROR = 0.036 points per 60
Berglund = 0.028 points per 60
Sobotka = 0.022 points per 60
Thompson = 0.018 points per 60 (obviously young, his shot is really good, on a line with Eichel or Reinhart could be deadly. or another good passer)
Who are Berglund and Sobtka going to replace? (Berglund and Sobtka = 0.050 points per 60)
Girgensons = 0.015 points per 60 (with ROR = 0.051 points per 60)
Josefson = 0.009 points per 60 (with ROR = 0.045 points per 60)
Larsson = 0.015 points per 60 (with ROR = 0.051 points per 60)
Nolan = 0.012 points per 60 (with ROR = 0.048 points per 60)
Pouliot = 0.019 points per 60 (with ROR = 0.055 points per 60)
Moulson = 0 (?!?!) points per 60 (with ROR = 0.036 points per 60)
Fasching = 0 (?!?) points per 60 (with ROR = 0.036 points per 60)
The second thing I like is the 5v5 point increase. Don't have the numbers for that, cause I am sure no one cares, haha.
Edit: Oh and we still got Tage coming, 2019 1st and 2021 2nd some day (trade value for rental when making playoffs consistently? lol) |

We got a 1st and a 2nd rounder...even if we don't traded them and draft with those picks...that is the definition of future help. |

Another poster had a good comment in the trade discussion blog. Basically said how everyone was saying a few weeks ago that RoR would only return a 2nd round pick. But in reality, he returns 5 pieces, and yet the Sabres still somehow didn't get good value for him. |

Jason Botterill shipped out a Canadian for another American and another Swede. This is becoming more than just "how things happened to work out".
I am not hating on this trade, just an observation. |

I thought you loved draft picks, especially first and second round draft picks. If Botterill keeps the picks and the Sabres have three firsts next year, you'll be in heaven picking our future studs or dreaming up scenarios about using them to trade up and get XXXXXX. |
