It doesn't work like that. They'd only save 1 million if they buried Brouwer in the AHL.
- Hunkulese

Yup. They added that rule in the last cba. I remember Wade Redden and his 6 mil hiding in the AHL in the olden days. 6 million was alot back then.

How is 20+ goals per year going to be a disaster in the near future. The Neal signing is a disaster, real bad news for Brouwer because they just gave him Brouwers job.
Brouwer & Stone = 9.0 mill of cap space & whether people like it or not, even if you had to offer up a 2019 3rd & a 2020 2nd to move Brouwer, whatever.

Neal should be fine for the next five years, but as it stands now they don't have the space to sign Lindholm and Hanifin long term. Even being conservative it'll take at least 10 million a year to get them locked up. I fully expect them both to thrive in Calgary so bridge contracts are going to lead to significant raises in the future.

I also think Lindholm's give and go game will be a great fit with Bennett and Jankowski. Bennett will have the most talented linemates he's ever had, and I fully expect him to finally be successful this year. What happens when he scores 25-30 goals next year and needs a new contract next year. What happens when Tkachuk scores 25-30 goals next year and needs a new contract?

They're also going to have to pay someone to be their goalie next year and there's a good chance that they'll have to pay more than 4.25 to keep Smith if he has a great year or if they need to sign someone as good as Smith.

The Flames also have no expiring contracts next year besides Smith, Bennett, and Tkachuk. The could easily find themselves in a situation next summer where Bennett is coming off a monster season but they have to get rid of him or Tkachuk.

Going to the chucks Saturday night & bull riding at Ranchmans this Thursday. Not as much as usual cause the tough economy has too many companies cutting back

Geez buddy, you really dont have any Gretzky vision do you?
Even if you get both Hanafin locked into 5-6 year deals at around 4.8-5.0 mill per, Im being generous here, Janko gets 1.5mill, Kulak get 900K, Riitch/Gilles get $850-950K each & one of them will not count. Hathaway maybe $700k, its pretty close.
Stone is moveable, that gives you 3.5mill. That alone works. Sportsnet had Brouwer as the #1 salary dump for some team wanting to get to the floor & Flames could sweeten with a 2nd& 3rd or a prospect. If Tre really needs the space, he'll find it.

A year too long and a shade too much. But I still like it. Plus Neal isn’t a wussy. That’s a plus. Go Flames.

Except that doesn't work. Every number you came up with is the absolute minimum they'd sign for and would still even leave the Flames with 1 million in cap space after the traded Stone. And Stone isn't as moveable as you think. He took less money to stay in Calgary, and the fact that he can pick 15 teams he won't play for makes it pretty easy for him to stay in Calgary if he wants.

Even with the best case scenario and they unload Brouwer and Stone, they still won't have enough to give Bennett and Tkachuk raises and pay a number one goalie. The Flames are going to have to get rid of someone they don't want to get rid of. They need to find a way to get rid of Brouwer, Stone, and Frolik without taking back any money.

Also, there's no way Kulak gets a contract from the Flames unless they're getting rid of someone.

That's the Beauty of what BT has accomplished in the last couple of weeks so many options!

My lines would be

JG, Money, Neal
Tk, Lindholm, Czarink
Bennett Backlund Foo
Jankowski Ryan Frolik

- Yeah...Baby

Janko is better than both foo abs czar...everyone seems to be tossing him aside as a 4th liner ...he will surprise a lot of people this year

No I’m just putting them on there natural side. I agree Jankowski is better then both of them but he’s not a right handed shot.

It will be very interesting to see how this plays out. The fact we can even argue about the lines is a true testament to what BT has accomplished these last couple of weeks.

Pretty sure Stone wants to get minutes. Which might get him a better contract in a couple years.

They can buy out Brouwer next year or trade him to a team that wants an asset and needs to hit cap floor.

Man if Bennett has a breakout year that would be amazing, same with Janko. Having too many options is not a bad thing. There are also bridge contracts.

At some point gotta start restocking the prospect pool.

You seem like the kind of person who does not leave Canada cause international travel is too dangerous.

Stone took less money to stay in Calgary when he knew he'd be used as a third pairing guy. He wants to play for the Flames.

You could be right. Hope all those players u mentioned deserve payment. They have to earn it. But at this point just enjoy man. There is a way out down the road.
