You want the tired trade discussion and the pros and cons of everything? Go back to the last blog. People, including myself, are exhausted. - TheSabresTaco
Than what is the purpose of this one? To piss off folks who didnt post (or vent in my case) on the last one?
Look - I feel this trade is garbage, the team is peeing down our leg and telling us its raining....if you are excited about a late round pick, Sobotka and Berglund, god bless you but they are garbage, Bergluds 4 year contract is garbage, Vlad will go back to KHL if the Sabres tank again.....so Berglund, a lottery protected 1st and a 2nd?
This is one of the worst trades in Sabres history.

Real value seems like its in picks and Tage...Berglund is still a useful player. Just turned 30 so you shouldn't see a huge dip in his abilities for the length of the contract.
Not sure about Sobotka...feels like he can easily be flipped at the trade deadline if Sabres are out of playoff hunt.
Wasn't sure what Sabres current high demand needs were and if this helped. - DDM-Coga
It was pretty commonly agreed upon that we all think that Casey is not ready for full-time 2C duties especially the defensive zone part of it. He could easily grow into it mid way through the year.
We really wanted to get back a vet 2/3C type player who can take tougher faceoffs and let Casey ease into the roll. I think that Berglund is EXACTLY the guy we needed to accomplish this.
Sobotka is a cap dump but a useful bottom 6 guy too. I honestly don't think anyone in our bottom 6 score 10+ goals last year let alone 30 pts? Beats the heck out of Nolan and it allows some of our kids to stay in AHL if needed instead of getting bottom 6 minutes. |

I think he gets moved for someone like Skinner or Pacioretty. |

Was widely reported Botts was looking for a 1st, 2nd, prospect. He got all that and a few bags of chips, aka guys to fill in the middle 6. Each of them score more ES than ROR. So that's something. Some people like the prospect, some don't. I've read a lot about him and have no reason to dislike a 20 year old late 1st round pick. - TheSabresTaco
last year in the AHL was a mess. Avs and Blues were sharing the Rampage and it wasn't working. The Head Coach was way over his head and was fired after this season.
If anyone is disappointed with his AHL numbers, have to put the disaster of a shared affiliate into perspective |

Dude, I post a fun little gif and you rip into me for not participating. That couldn't be farther from the truth. You don't like the trade, that's fine. But to blindly accuse Botts of being awful and trying to tank because Ryan o (frank)ing Reilly was traded is absolutely asinine. You're not recognizing a single piece he brought back, and the purpose for which he was traded. |

I am honestly shocked that STL still traded for ROR after I saw this signed Bozak to a 3 year x 5M AAV deal. I thought they balked at us.
So now they have Schenn, ROR, and Bozak down the middle accounting for 17.85M of their cap. Then Tarasenko, Piets, and Parayko accounting for another 19M. |

Rochester is going to be an even stronger, more cohesive team this year. If he goes to Rochester to start the year, he's in excellent hands. I've read a lot about Thompson. I've liked him since his draft year. He has a lot to offer that he hasn't shown yet. I really don't think people see his potential. |

Name 1 - One - Great move Botts has made ----- any fool could have drafted Dahlin.
I recognize EVERY piece we got back is Stl junk - Botts couldn't even get Parayko! Or Robert Thomas.....he is out of his league...why am I the only one who sees this? This fallacy of letting a GM get 2 years "on-the-job" training is preposterous. |

I think most can appreciate Berglund being in the deal. I know I like it. It's a win for Armstrong bc he kept Kyrou and Thomas.
The trade Is a draw

If you just put his non PP stats down, without the name, and showed his stats to everyone in hockey, I don’t think you would even guess he was a top 6 player on any team in the league.
I don’t hate ROR but we will easily replace his PP production and won’t miss him one bit 5v5.
