I didn't like the trade that much either. Keep in mind that ROR was invisible most nights last year. Other GMs watch the games as well. |

Because that is what you and the like of that other guy wanted back from St louis.
Why would St Louis do it, if you wouldn't do it?
This isn't hard.

ROR had beef with Landy and Duchene, correct? - ImThatGuy
More with Landy and Johnson, they were vocal about how he did his contract business and didnt like it.
Those 2 were the leaders and ROR wanted to be one the locker room voice. Same with Duchene, he tried to be the "guy" when it was MacKs team. Mack, Barrie, Johnson, and Landy are the top clique in the room. |

So many children on this page
At the end of the day here is what we know:
Some people on here undervalued ROR, some overvalued, and some knew exactly what he is.
He is a big minute eating 2nd line center. Doesn't produce enough away from the power player to make $7.5 million a year.
Here is what the trade netted:
A 3rd line center to let Mittelstadt work his way into being more defensive responsible
A depth forward who can play all 3 positions that hopefully wouldn't sniff anything past the 3rd line.
A former first round prospect who by all accounts was rushed throw development due to injuries. Some time in Rochester would do him some good. Oh by the way he is already more productive than the guy picked 8th overall that year (Nylander).
Then you have a 1st round pick this year. Should be a late teen pick.
A 2nd round pick in 2021.
If anyone thinks they were going to get a teams top prospect in this deal you're nuts.
Bellows wasn't being dealt
None of the top 3 St Louis prospects were coming either.
This isn't a huge win right now for Botts, but people that are acting like the sky is fallen cannot see the forest through the trees. He is building a team, he has to take some load bearing walls down first that the previous GM put in place.
I think looking from both sides of the trade it's a fair trade for both teams.
ROR needed to go. There is no point in arguing this anymore. If he didn't then Botterill wouldn't have shipped him out.
There are still some players that need to go away before the season starts, and I am willing to bet there will be at least 1 or 2 more wingers added when it is all said and done. - Stripes77
This!
He is trying to build the Pens system - being able to plug and play players from the farm while keeping your top end guys signed long term. This isn't about 2018/19, it's about 2021/22 and beyond...

He's gotta tread that line carefully. Too many losses at the KBC this year, and people will be chanting for his head like we did with Darcy |

But people said we should have got Parayho in the trade. So he is flipping what people here wanted from STL and just flipping it around to our fans.

A couple more tweaks for the present, while bolstering our prospect system will do wonders for this team. Patience is a dirty word here, but if we're this (frank)ing bad next year, I think we have a problem. |

Our goalies played maybe the worst in NHL history the first 30 games last year, the only way we are worse next year is if they play like that again, i just don't see it. |

As long as they get their poop together an give an honest effort, he's fine. If the team looks uninpired and flat, Housley could be in trouble. Fans have sat through slow, listless hockey for too long. If they finish in the bottom 5, it's going to be incredibly ugly. |
