Do u remember last uear’s Trade deadline when no one would give us anything for Pouliot?

Teams don’t seem to be trading for depth forwards anymore
So idk if we will get anything at all for those guys...
and almost definitely not 2nd & 3rds
Maybe some 4ths or later,
if we are lucky

Did he even sign with anybody yet?

Bc if they’re willing to send them though waivers, where they’d most likely get scooped up, then they obviously don’t value Bailey or Baptiste at all...
If that’s the case,
then u try to trade them for whatever u can get
If that doesn’t work, then u just don’t bother qualifying them

I agree with all of this. Botts had a nice draft, made a savvy move for Sheary and Hunwick, but his trade deadline left a bit to be desired.
- PrinceChill

It wasn’t just us though
There were plenty of depth forwards (and defensemen) around the league that didn’t get traded

See, your whole point kinda contradicts itself

If the org values the players, they qualify them. They also don't have sal arb so there's no reason not to, because of their cheap contracts.

The org values these two players, to a point. The Sabres want to see if one or both can make the team. If they can't, one or both, Botts will attempt to trade or package one or both.

If neither have trade value by themselves or there isn't a larger target the team is interested in, they will gauge the value of both players. If no one shows interest, they will feel very comfortable sending them down. If the team wants to trade them and can't, there's virtually no value there to begin with, hence, losing them is a non factor.

They're young, cheap assets. You qualify them, period.

If Botterill is serious about Reinhart at center:

Sheary-Eichel-Thompson
Berglund-Mitts-Okposo
Erod-Reinhart-Baptiste
Bailey-Sobotka-Pominville

- jcragcrumple

I’d go

Rodrigues-Eichel-Okposo
*E Rod & Eichel back together, maximize Okposo so we can trade him next offseason

Berglund-Reinhart-Baptiste
*Berglund is helpful defensively if Sam struggles, give Baptiste a legit shot

Sheary-Mittelstadt-Thompson
*if Thompson is ready, if not then Bailey or Pommer- lots of Off Zone time for these guys

Wilson-Sobatka-Pominville
*to be used heavily for Def Zone starts, should be a pretty solid group

Nylander a (frank)ing wasted draft pick, not to mention every time he walks down the steps he stubs his little toe then sits in the bleachers watching.

Young cheap assets don’t get qualified every year by teams who don’t see those guys as part of the future & don’t wanna waste any more time with them

Yeah, it’s possible they still get traded
If not, I’d be surprised if they don’t make the roster
Unless we can’t get rid of a couple forwards & the Sabres think they’re more likely to clear waivers than Girgs, Larsson, etc

So what are we? Are we trying to get better? Hard to think that when we trade our #2 center for spare parts and some picks. Are we trying to tank again? I think so... I really cant handle another year of this..

I like it. Good mix of vets, speed, scoring and defensive ability. Reinhart at center definitely helps our situation on the right side. I don't think it helps Reinhart tho

Dont u think they’d have already looked into this & figures it out?
I do

I bet they know (or at least have a rough idea) what those guys could get back in a trade
Same with Girgs, Larsson, Beaulieu, etc

His look at Center last year was with Pouliot & Griffith on his wings

And i think he was a mess last year for the 1st half bc of off ice stuff

Sam at Center with some decent linemates might be worth another look
He might need more than Berglund & Baptiste though. They could be only a modest upgrade over what he had last year
If Baptiste is filling the net though, that line could be pretty nice

This is all assuming we give him another shot at Center
Might just be best to leave him at RW

That’s just of Sam is given another shat at Center

I’m surprised the Isles haven’t scooped him up yet
They just have Greiss right now i think?

EDIT

Calgary only has Mike Smith for 1 more year
Do the Rangers have a backup?
Maybe back to Ottawa if they trade Anderson
Is Philly happy going with Bishop/Neuvirth again?
Winnipeg could use a backup

And there’s a few teams who have backups that aren’t all that good who might be interested as well potentially

Looks like he’s still got some options

You're just trolling.

You qualify them every time. You don't even give it a second thought. If you don't trade them, they come to camp with a chance to make the team.
