He thinks Mitts will put up Barzal-like production
Except he didn’t know (supposedly) what Barzal’s production was
So i think he amended his projections to 65pts

- jdfitz77

Barzal was apart of the Eichel draft though. Yes it was his rookie year last year and he put up 85 but he’s also 21. Mitts very well could be a 85 point player by the time he’s 21. I think he puts up 65 points this year and that would be a damn good year considering where we are as a team right now.

Not for next season they don’t, but there’s only so much we can do at once. And it’s not like teams are clamoring to ditch their fast skilled wingers for someone who cried his way out of two franchises.

We all got excited for a huge return because:

As Sabres fans we overvalue our players
Twitter and media people get more hits when big names are involved.
After the draft the price was 1st, 2nd, and a prospect. We got that plus some real bottom 6 nhl players so Larsson can go away.

Botts also said at the draft that he needs trades to happen to set up other trades, so he may not be done.

- Shadman306

Sure
“Placeholders” just don’t excite me though
So hopefully he can flip some of these guys

Just bc I’m not a GM doesn’t mean i have to like every trade Botts makes
ESP when the guys we get are the OPPOSITE of what he previously says he wants

It’s legit to question bringing in slow players when he said we need to get faster...
RIGHT?!

It’s telling that u have to resort to coming at me bc u can’t find any logic in us getting OLDER AND SLOWER

- jdfitz77

He did say we need to improve our depth. We got 3 guys who will play in our lineup this year for 1 guy. Including 1st and 2nd round picks that are assets. We could always move berglund and Sobotka at some point as well if our younger guys can push them out of a spot. It creates more internal competition on the team.

Don't know if we are really in the market for any of the UFA's, but who's left?

Maroon
Duclair

Who am I missing?

It certainly is fair.
However, some are going to hate this...I also believe there is much more to a team than throwing out maximum talent...so skill isn't the be all, end all.

It is obvious to me that the team was seriously devoid of productive leadership and needed a significant change. It seems THAT was priority #1 to the Brass.
Also, the value they got back, was pretty much the same Murray spent 3 seasons ago for a younger player. Are these players ideal skill wise...HELL no.
Coul d they be the "addition" to stabilize the Locker Room and help guts like Dahlin, Mitts and other youth ... YES.
Did they offset the scoring loss...YES
Can they help Jack become a respected leader which addds a ton of value...MAYBE, but obviouslybetterthan what they had with ROR.

- IonSabres

Decent points,
but i wish we could’ve helped the room with guys who can actually skate
That’s all I’m saying

Sheary, makes sense
Berglund & Sobatka, not so much
And Thompson, while young, isn’t a good skater. He’s just “ok”

I’m hoping he can flip some of this to get the RIGHT guys to play the fast style he keeps saying he wants

I’d be totally happy with that too
My postings aren’t designed to talk smack about Mitts
Just to say that if he isn’t Barzal-like right away that it’s ok
Heck, even of Mitts goes 20-20-40pts it’s fine
He’s gonna be a rookie,
likely with average wingers

I just don’t wanna see the “overreactors” on here flip their sh!t if he isn’t the rookie of the year

So, reflecting back on last season, I saw lots of posts that said
1 - our scoring sucks because the bottom six couldn't produce secondary scoring.
2 - the scoring sucked because the top 6 wast producing as needed collectively.
3 - the D sucks
4 - the Goaltending sucks
5 - the team chemiustry sucks
6 - a significant overhauloif the team is required.

I think it is safe to say that Botts has addressed, luckily and by design 2 through 6 directly this off-season, and a) likely isn't done, b) is hoping for some in-house talent to contribute.

Overall, I really like what he has done, while recognizing there is a gaping hole or two in 1st-LW and
2nd-RHD.

I love watching the process unfold before our eyes!!!

Considering the Flamers were touted as having the best D last season & shat the bed, it's going to be interesting to see how the Caners go. Or is the 'Hammo' factor going to poison the group?

Nashville & the Ducks still have a better top4 than Carolina

But they did make nice moves, for sure
De Haan-Hamilton is a great 2nd pair
And that puts Faulk on the 3rd pair,
where he can actually do well for them
The can put him in mostly offensive situations that way, where he’s good
Play in his own end has been pretty rough, which is why i don’t want him

I like mitts a lot , but our franchise center has never put up that many points you want mitts to do that his first year as a 19 yr old? If he’sanywhere Close to 50 we should all be thrilled...if he scores 65 people will be screaming for jack’s head.

And team speed...
severely lacking there

Obviously Botts still has work to do
I’m not throwing him under the bus
Just saying he actually made us slower
That’s a concern
