Fitz - YOU WERE INCREDIBLY SMART AND CORRECT THAT THOMAS VANEK WOULD NOT BE SIGNED HERE.

BUT,
YOU ALSO THOUGHT CASEY WOULD STAY IN SCHOOL OR ROCHESTER.

Casey is an nhl player. Easily 65 points

- Boss34

No, i thought he MIGHT start in Rochester
Never said he WOULD, sir

Idk...
Imo, the bolded are on the slower side
*or at least not “fast”

Sheary-Eichel-Okposo
Berglund
-Mittelstadt-Reinhart
Sobatka
-Rodrigues-Thompson
Wilson-Larsson-Pominville

Girgensons
Bailey
Baptiste

- jdfitz77

Berglund is a very good skater for a big man.

And Sobotka is 5’10-5’11. He made it to the NHL on his skating. Neither are remotely slow

Good point pegullaville.

I mentioned there was no reason Casey couldn't step in next year( 2018-19) and put up barzals numbers.

I guess I didnt realize that he had 85 points

Casey is awesome.
I may also be premature, but eichel and Casey 1 and 2 is about as good as it gets - ever

- Boss34

Ive seen u say this a couple times now
Idk how u missed what a GREAT season he was having though?

Anyways...
i don’t think Casey is gonna be bad or anything
All I’ve ever said is that he might not be a stud RIGHT AWAY

If he just goes 20-20-40pts it’s ok
I do think you’re premature with the “as good as it gets- ever” hype you’re throwing around
Expecting them to be Sid & Malkin is a reach, let alone Gretzky & Messier

I like Eichel & Mitts down the middle
But let’s not go crazy with expectations
I don’t wanna see anybody freaking out if Jack doesn’t score 100pts this year & Casey is only around 50pts

Neither are “fast”
That’s for damn sure

Who's there.
65 without a LOT of help alongside is pretty bold.
I'd be very good with 40-45 depending on his linemates.

I love his play and your optimism, but that is aggressive.
That could change if he gets a solid sniper or two to play with.

- IonSabres

Its July 4th. I feel like there is more help coming.
Our power play is going to be much improved.

Okposo , sam and jack will all get some Casey time.

Small sample but, 5 points in 6 games last year

Yeah, they are good skaters.

If you don’t want to take my word for it listen to Andy Stricklin’s interview after the O’Reilly trade where they specifically asked him about both of their skating. He said they are both very good skaters.

And Berglund has always been known for being a fast big guy. It’s been known since he’s been in the league

Even more impressive given the fact he never had more then 1 point in any of the games. He was on the scoresheet in 5 of the 6 games he played. A lot different then putting up a 3 point night and disappearing for 3 games.

I guess that's why we share our opinions on this forum?

I'm 40 , seen a lot of talent come and go.
Casey is the best prospect or hope I can remember.
Sneaky Pete was pretty over hyped

And:

We have dahlin too.
I cant even believe how set up the Sabres are with those 3. Its a dream.

Eichel
Mitts
Dahlin

Plus sam was 2nd overall and now 22
Risto 8rh overall and 24
Nylander blows, but ......

Exactly

Why cant we be optimistic?
It's frowned upon here.

This year and team is going to be fun

Anybody know whatever happened to Homer? Wasn’t he an inside the organization guy?

Yeah, well, he's a guy who tried hard to tell me Ville Leino was going to be a great player too.

Berglund has good north/south speed. He just isn’t quick.

It’s not like Berglund is a speed demon, but I wouldn’t call them on the “slow side”

We got a little faster with moving out O’Reilly

The mogilny signing/defection was exciting. I still remember taping and re watching his Russian highlights on my parents vcr.

* a VCR was like a DVR, but actually recorded television onto what they called VHS tapes

I think the fact that he was a 5th round 89th pick took away some if the initial luster.

Comparing the feeling from 28 years ago to now, I still think I'm more pumped about casey.
Maybe because I've seen him play in person?
He looks like a big time prospect.

People keep forgetting about guhle.
Hes gonna score some goals for the Sabres this year

Yeah, I don't know where this notion that these guys are slow came from. Are they Theo Fleury? No, but they can move, and Sobotka especially is very tenacious and hard working, and is a c@cksucker to play against.

Yeah, I don't understand the whole "got slower" commentary. Did ROR have some blazing speed I'm unaware of? Maybe he just lost the love of skating fast?

I don't doubt you, but the Blues fans are generally happy those two are gone...but the Blues are ahead of us, and got the best 0layer out of it.

A decent stop gap that helps us now and couldinthe future more if we deal them and have suitable replacements ready...Asplund, Davidson, Pu, th he Swede in the 4th this year (forgot his name already)...
But I have relatively low expectations for the Sabres this season ..82/84 pts

We need to continue to add grit and toughness.

I wouldn't be surprised to see another tough winger or 2 brought in. We cant let the stars get pushed around.

Sobotka is going to do to Tavares and Matthews what Pekar did to Mitts at development camp. He’s a Patrick Kaleta that can actually play hockey. Even if he only gives us 30 points on the third line he’s going to be tough minutes for teams top players. Berglund can play on Mitts or Eichel’s wing and take all the draws. Both berglund and Sobotka were 55% or better on the dot last season.

The blues protected 7 forwards in the expansion draft.

Both bergland and saobotka were protected
Perron was exposed
Now perron is signed for 4 at 16 million.

Being protected shows that the blues valued these guys regardless of how the fans feel.

Ror is overrated. I like him, but seriously, he could no longer be a buffalo sabre. Maybe we could have gotten something better?

Berglund is going to mentor our young swedes.
He is way better then:
Larson
Joshephson
Nolan
Pouliot
Girgs

We got better with this trade

Personally, I'd love to see Wayne Simmonds here. He checks all the boxes, except for perhaps his age.

But, you're right, they need to get tougher. A pack mentality would help, too. Players who want to play for each other and stick up for one another, which is where a "tight" dressing room comes in.
